Universitas Brawijaya Choir has achieved a proud achievement, namely in the 11th Bali International Choir Festival. The festival is organized by Bandung Choral Society. The 11th Bali International Choir Festival was held on July 25-28 in Denpasar Bali.
The UB Choir team which becames the representative in the prestigious competition is named floice from the Faculty of Agricultural Technology. The floice choir consists of 25 singers, 1 conductor, 1 pianist, and 2 officials.
The competition was attended by 66 choir teams. Participants in this festival come from the general public, high school students, and university students. In addition, there were participants from the Philippines and Hong Kong who participated in the 11th Bali International Choir Festival.
There are several categories in this competition, namely mixed youth, pop jazz, musica sacra, gospel &spiritual, folksong, etc. UB’s choir participated in 2 (two) categories in the 11th Bali International Choir Festival, namely pop jazz and mixed youth.
The choir competition consists of 3 (three) rounds, namely the competition round, championship round, and final round. Meanwhile, UB’s choir managed to pass in round 1 (competition round) for the pop jazz category with the highest score. Furthermore, in the second round for the pop jazz category, UB’s team managed to get the highest score and passed to the third round.
In addition, for the mixed youth category, UB’s delegation managed to get the second highest score in the first round. From these 2 categories, UB’s choir has won 3 awards, namely The Winner of Competition Round of Pop Jazz Category, The Champion of Pop Jazz Category, and Gold Medal Mixed Youth Category.
Judging in the prestigious events is carried out by professional judges. The interesting thing about this choir competition is that the judges come from various countries, namely Malaysia, US, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, South Korea, and Indonesia.
Floice has been preparing for a competition to participate in the 1th Bali International Choir Festival since March 2022. In March-April the floice team conducted online exercises to learn the connotations of the song first. Furthermore, offline rehearsals were conducted from May to July to start detailing, discussing vocal techniques, and choreo practice.
“For preparation, we have started training since May. The preparations that we definitely provide are songs, accommodation, documents, costumes, and various other important needs. In addition, another important thing that needs to be prepared is stamina. We always have physical activities in every exercise, such as running around UB”, said Tessa, one of the floice choir team.
The 11th Bali International Choir Festival is a prestigious competition which is held every year. In 2022, the festival was held offline in Bali. There were several venues for the implementation, namely the Dharma Negara Alaya, the Good Shepherd Jesus Church, St. Joseph, and Discovery Kartika Plaza Hotel. (Aura/VQ/ Humas UB/ Trans. Iir)
