The Policy of Independent Learning- Independent Campus launched by the Minister of Education and Culture can be used as a foundation for preparing college graduates who are tough, skilled, resilient, and relevant to the needs of the times. Therefore, the Rector of Universitas Brawijaya (UB), Prof. Dr. Ir. Nuhfil Hanani AR., MS stated that he is ready to facilitate students in order to succeed in the program.

The Rector said, with the concept of Independent Learning, students are expected to master the knowledge from the study program they take, they are also equipped with knowledge and skills outside the study program they are taking, since they have right to take courses outside the study program within the university or outside the university. .

“UB itself has prepared almost all study programs to accept students from other universities. A MoU or Cooperation Agreement has been made between faculties and various universities outside UB, for example with UI and UGM, “said the Rector.

The same thing was conveyed by the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Prof. Dr. drh. Aulanni’am, DES, where currently all faculties offer seven courses in each Study Program that can be taken by students from other Study Programs.

Prof. Aulanni’am said, the development of the Independent Learning program at UB was adjusted to Permendikbud Number 3 of 2020 concerning National Standards of Higher Education, where the fulfillment of the load and period of student’s learning can be carried out by participating in the entire learning process regularly, or following the learning process in the study program and outside the study program.

“So, Higher Education are obliged to give students the right to be able to take one semester of learning outside the Study Program at the same university, plus a maximum of two semesters to study in the same Study Program at a different university or a different Study Program at the different university, “explained by Prof. Aulanni’am.

In addition, students also have rights to take part in learning activities outside of higher education. These include internships / work practices, community service projects in villages, teaching at schools, conducting entrepreneurial activities, research, or humanitarian projects.

According to Prof. Aulanni’am, actually the Independent Learning policy is not new for UB, since UB has carried out various activities before the stipulation of the policy. For example, the Faculty of Computer Science and the Faculty of Economics and Business have initiated a certified student apprentice program. UB has also implemented Thematic KKN. The Faculty of Culture Studies has also implemented teaching programs in schools, as well as international student exchanges and Double Degree.

“Basically, the Independent Campus is expected to provide freedom for students to voluntarily choose learning concepts that suit their needs and abilities. They can complete regular education in general, or choose according to the education pathway offered, of course with the direction of an Academic Advisor or PA lecturer. Thus, PA lecturers play an important role in directing and maximizing the potential of students in responding to this Independent Learning program, “he concluded. [Irene/ Humas UB/ Trans. Iir]
