UB Kukuhkan Dua Guru Besar FMIPA

Universitas Brawijaya (UB) mengukuhkan dua Guru Besar dari Fakultas Matematika dan Ilmu Pengetahuan Alam (FMIPA), Rabu (16/01/2019), di Gedung Widyaloka. Pertama adalah Prof. Dr. Ing. Setyawan Purnomo Sakti, M.Eng sebagai Guru Besar dalam Bidang Ilmu Instrumentasi dan Sensor. Ia merupakan Guru Besar ke-242 di UB. Kedua, Prof. Dr. Ir. Moch. Sasmito Djati, M.S., sebagai Guru Besar dalam Bidang Ilmu Biologi Reproduksi Molekuler, yang merupakan Guru Besar UB ke-243.

Dalam kesempatan ini, Prof. Dr. Ing. Setyawan Purnomo Sakti, M.Eng menyampaikan pidato dengan judul "Quartz Crystal Microbalance dengan Sistem Instrumentasinya untuk Teknologi Sensor Kimia dan Biosensor". Sedangkan Prof. Dr. Ir. Moch. Sasmito Djati, M.S., membawakan pidato dengan judul "Reproductive Herbalisme, Metode Pendekatan Berdasarkan Mekanisme Sinergetik Komplek dalam Membangun Sistem Pertahanan Tubuh dan Kesehatan Reproduksi".

Prof. Setyawan: Sensor QCM dengan Konsentrasi Massa Nanogram

Sensor merupakan aspek utama sebagai titik awal pengubahan fakta atau keadaan menjadi suatu bentuk data. Sensor suhu mengubah temperatur badan, ruang, lingkungan menjadi sebuah data. Kamera dengan sensor optik mengubah penampakan obyek menjadi suatu data gambar. Tanpa adanya proses dengan menggunakan piranti pengolah data, maka informasi yang diperoleh akan diragukan. Untuk itu, pengembangan sensor dengan berbagai ragamnya merupakan hal yang pokok dalam revolusi industri 4.0 karena semakin memudahkan kehidupan manusia.

Universitas Brawijaya saat ini memasuki usia ke-56 pada 5 Januari 2019. UB berdiri berdasarkan SK Menteri Perguruan Tinggi dan Ilmu Pengetahuan (PTIP) Nomor 1 Tahun 1963, dan kemudian dikukuhkan dengan Keputusan Presiden Republik Indonesia Nomor 196 Tahun 1963.

Awal berdirinya, UB hanya memiliki lima fakultas yaitu Fakultas Hukum dan Pengetahuan Masyarakat (FHPM), Fakultas Ekonomi (FE), Fakultas Administrasi Niaga (FAN), Fakultas Pertanian (FP), dan Fakultas Kedokteran Hewan & Peternakan (FKHP).

BAN PT re-Accredit Universitas Brawijaya

Brawijaya University again visited by the Assessor of the Higher Education National Accreditation Agency (BAN PT). The visit was in the context of UB's accreditation. UB Accreditation will expire at the end of January 2019.

Visitation of University Accreditation is scheduled for three days (21-23 / 11/2018). Seven assessors had come to UB. The seven assessors are Dr. Ir. Suhanan, DEA from Gadjah Mada University (Team Leader), Prof. Dr. Zulkifli Dahlan, M.Sc., DEA from Sriwijaya University, Prof. Dr. HM. Arfin Hamid, S.H., M.H from Hasanuddin University, Prof. Dr. Nadra, M.S from Andalas University, Prof. Norma Afiati, M.Sc., Ph.D from Diponegoro University, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Rodoni, M.M from Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University, and Dr. Dra. Dewi Susanna, M.Kes from the University of Indonesia.

University Accreditation (APT) is important, especially for alumni. This has an effect on the opportunity for an Alumni to find employment. Deputy Chairperson of the APT UB Team, Ir. Achmad Wicaksono, M.Eng., Ph.D agreed that APT is the most crucial thing at this time. Many companies and agencies require the ranking of University Accreditation to job seekers.

A person can solve problems and make decisions effectively and efficiently if he/she has information literacy skills such as the ability to find and use the information needed. In college students' literacy information skills are a necessity because it will support the teaching and learning process and even become an important tool in fostering critical thinking ability.

In education, information literacy is given to improve students' access to the information needed. Therefore, higher education is required to be able to create an atmosphere and students who have information literacy skills to support the successfulness of  the learning process (Alam, 2016).

The book is one of the literacy media that supports academic activities. Aware of this, since 2009 Brawijaya University (UB) has a college publishing institution named UB Press. around 785 titles have been produced with sales reaching 60,797 copies until 2018.

With the vision of "Becoming the World's Best Class Publishers", UB Press has a mission to encourage the growth and development of a culture of reading, researching and writing among UB's academic community members. Furthermore, the institution currently led by Prof. Dr. Ir. Trinil Susilawati, MS strongly supports the conscious movement of writing and reading for Indonesia, which was declared by APPTI (Association of Indonesian College Publishers).

In his statement, Prof. Trinil said that the attention of UB's academics is especially great for lecturers to publish scientific works and popular results from their studies. One of the products is textbooks that were expected to have received positive responses from students. "If possible, all lectures use teaching book guidelines so that can facilitate students' understanding and improve the quality of teaching and learning," said the Professor of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry.
