To maintain the continuity of this plastic waste processing activity, LPPM UB synergizes with Bina Hangtuah youth organization through the Waste Bank of Tambaan Indah unit. Synergy is manifested in the form of an operational cooperation agreement using distillator machine that has been granted by LPPM Universitas Brawijaya to the Youth Organization.
Basically, the collaboration states that the youth organization, led by Anggi Sutiyana, provides distillator and operator personnel including field assistants, while the Waste Bank led by M Thoyib Marsito provides personnel to short the plastic waste and dry it so that it can be processed into fuel.
Tambaan Beach, which is located in Tambaan, Panggungrejo sub-district, Pasuruan city, is one of the coastal areas where there is a lot of plastic waste that comes from two rivers that empties into the Tambaan coast.
The two rivers are Gembong River which comes from the eastern Pasuruan Regency and Welung River which comes from the West Pasuruan Regency.
The two rivers carry plastic waste with the most common type of polypropylene. This is a type of plastic commonly used for wrapping dry food (snacks), plastic straws, medicine bags, covers, plastic cups, bags, bottles.
In addition, HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) plastic waste is also found, which is colored of milky white / pure white plastic which is commonly used for tissue bags, detergent bottles, oil, heat-resistant plastic, plastic pipes, grocery bags and plastic bags. The impact caused by plastic waste on the beach can threaten the health of the surrounding community, cause water pollution that can threaten marine life, especially fish and coastal aesthetics that are unsightly.
