
Yohanes Audric Alimsjah and Ni Nyoman Triana Widhiastuti, students of the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Brawijaya (FKUB) won 3rd Place in the Indonesian International Medical Olympiad (IMO) 2024. This achievement was announced after the final round of the activity on Saturday (16/11/2024), at Pelita Harapan University, Tangerang.
The two students of the 2021 batch of the Medical Study Program won the championship in the Tropical Infection category after going through the internal selection of the Brawijaya Medical Olympiad by the Medical Education Student Association (HMPD) FK UB.
“We participated in the preliminary round online, then the semifinals and finals offline at FK UPH Tangerang. We are very grateful to have the opportunity to win with the tight competition from all the best delegates from their respective universities,” said Yohanes.

This annual competition brings medical students from all over Indonesia to compete in six branches of medicine, namely Digestive, Tropical Infection, Cardiorespiratory, Musculoskeletal, Neuropsychiatry, Uroreproductive. This year, each branch was participated by 56 teams from 56 universities throughout Indonesia.
Yohanes admitted that he was interested in participating in this competition because he wanted to take advantage of the opportunity of his final pre-clinical year, and because of his interest in studying Tropical Infection.
In preparing for the competition, Yohanes and Triana studied the material, discussions, discussion of practice questions, skills and saw direct preparations both online and offline in FK UB and RSSA laboratories guided by several lecturers, namely Dr. Andrew William Tulle, M.Sc, Dr. Aulia Rahmi Pawestri, Ph.D., dr. Heri Sutanto, Sp.PD, KPTI, FINASIM, dr. Lita Setyowatie, Sp.KK (K), FINSDV, and dr. Savitri Laksmi Winaputri, Sp.A(K). They also participated in intensive guidance with tutors.
“The experience of participating in this competition was very enjoyable because I was able to meet delegates from various universities in Indonesia, and the Awarding Night was attended directly by the Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Prof. Stella Christie who gave a speech,” she concluded.
