Vice Chancellor II Follows Up the Cancellation Decision of Increased Tuition Fee From The Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education

Prof. Dr. Muchamad Ali Safa’at, S.H., M.H., – Professor of Constitutional Law at UB

Following up on the revocation of increased single tuition fee regulations in all universities by the Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia, Nadiem Makarim, Universitas Brawijaya (UB) through VR II, Prof. Dr. Muchamad Ali Safaat, SH., MH., stated that he would cancel the 2024 increased tuition fee and will return it to the 2023 Single Tuition Fee.

The former Dean of the Faculty of Law revealed that his party had received a letter from the Director General of Higher Education, Research and Technology Number 0511/E/PR.07.04/2024 dated 27 May 2024 and had only received it today, 28 May 2024.

UB will carry out follow up according to the agreement in the letter that it will revoke the 2024 increased tuition fee and return it in accordance with the 2023 tuition fee policy.

“We have received a letter from the Director General of Higher Education, and based on this decision we will adjust the information in the letter. “So as a consequence, we will return it according to 2023,” said VR II in a press release with the media.

By this way, there is a policy from UB as a transition process for new students on the SNBP route who have completed re-registration. In the press release, VR II UB stated that 75% of the 3662 new students on the SNBP route had re-registered.

Students who have re-registered include students who submitted objections to the group determination.

A total of approximately 300 students were approved in the tuition fee reduction group position and approximately 1,100 students were approved in the group of students who made single tuition fee payments in installments.

“75% of them, including those in it, submitted objections and their requests have been granted to lower the class for those who meet the requirements and apply installments for those who do not meet the requirements. The application was approved on May 22, Wednesday evening,” said UB VR II.

The first policy is that the Single Tuition Fee groups are determined based on the 2024 UKT groupings with the maximum nominal limit being the same as the maximum nominal limit for the highest Single Tuition Fee group in 2023.

“The grouping based on groups which is in accordance with the group groupings in 2024, however, the maximum limit for Single Tuition Fee payments uses the maximum value in 2023,” said the former Dean of the Faculty of Law.

The students from the SNBP route in 2024 who have paid single tuition fee above the maximum nominal value for the highest group in single tuition fee in 2023, the difference will be credited to the payments in the following semester (semester 2).

Another policy is that students on the SNBP route in 2024 who have paid single tuition fee in certain groups whose nominal value is lower than the nominal value in the same group according to single tuition fee 2023, the 2024 single tuition fee nominal value will still be applied so that there is no shortage of single tuition fee payments.

“For example, there are students from certain study programs who are in group 3 based on the 2024 single tuition fee grouping with a value of around 1.5 million. So, if you return to single tuition fee in 2023 with a higher nominal value, you will immediately experience an increase. “Hence, for this semester we use the 2024 nominal value so we don’t experience any shortfall in payment,” said VR II UB.

New students on the 2024 SNBP route who have not yet paid UKT, will make payments according to the group that has been determined. This is an exception for groups that exceed the maximum 2023 single tuition fee bill will be changed to the same as the maximum nominal according to the 2023 single tuition fee.

“We will set up the nominal of single tuition fee groups according to the maximum nominal in 2023,” said Prof. Dr. Muchamad Ali Safaat, SH., MH.

Furthermore, for new students on the 2024 SNBP route, single tuition fee groups will be re-determined using the 2023 groups which will be applied from the next semester (semester 2). (dea/OKY/UB PR/ Trans. Iir)
