The Faculty of Computer Science, Universitas Brawijaya (FILKOM UB) held a workshop entitled Strengthening Outcome Based Education (OBE) in the Lecturer Information System (SIADO) and Brawijaya Online Learning (BRONE). The activity, which was held for two days (3/2-4/2/2025) at the Algoritma Auditorium, FILKOM UB, was opened by the dean of FILKOM UB, Prof. Ir. Wayan Firdaus Mahmudy, S.Si., M.T., Ph.D.

By holding this routine workshop, Prof. Wayan hopes that FILKOM UB educators will always be updated with new skills and knowledge.

The first and second day workshops presented competent speakers and discussed themes that were in accordance with the needs of FILKOM educators.

Rekyan, in his material explained that as educators, it is an obligation to understand students. Moreover, generation Z has a character that is very different from generation X and the Millennial generation.

“These character differences require educators to adjust their teaching approaches and strategies to be relevant and effective for Generation Z. Learning patterns that present information visually through infographics, diagrams, animations, and simulations or virtual experiments are one method that we can use,” said Rekyan.

In the second session, the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, Dr. Eng. Ir. Herman Tolle, S.T., M.T., presented the theme of Using Teaching Modules to Increase Effectiveness in the Learning Process. Continued by Rizal Pahlevi Hilabi, Editor in Chief at PT Penerbit Erlangga, with the theme of Converting Textbooks into Popular Books. The material was continued by Ir. Tri Afirianto, S.T., M.T., with the material Making Interesting and Enjoyable AI-based Learning Videos. The activity was closed with material from Hariz Farisi, S.Kom., M.T., with the theme Making AI-based slides.

Tri Afirianto, or familiarly called Afi, said that making interesting learning videos can motivate students to like the courses being taught.

“Learning videos will be very effective in increasing motivation and learning outcomes. The involvement of technology-based learning media, such as learning videos, interactive quizzes, and online learning platforms, can increase students’ motivation to learn. Once again, we must not ignore, the interactivity and flexibility offered by technology allow students to be actively involved in the learning process, which has a positive impact on academic outcomes,” explained Afi.

The chairman of the workshop, Ir. Satrio Hadi Wijoyo, S.Si., S.Pd., M.Kom., or who is usually called Joy, said that this workshop directly presents speakers who have expertise in their fields. Moreover, the challenges of learning in generation Z today require special methods that cannot be ignored by educators.

“We all know that there is a gap between traditional teaching methods and the learning preferences of generation Z. Generation Z grew up in the digital era and prefers interactive technology-based learning. As educators, we cannot ignore this gap,” said Joy. (rr/UB PR/ Trans. Iir)
