FTUB Architecture students won 1st and 2nd place in the Render Competition Cultural Connect: Preserving Culture For The Future. This competition was organized by Sebelas Maret University and the Surakarta Indonesian Architects Association from 18 April to 12 May 2023.

Line up as the jury in this competition were Yosafat Winarto ST MT (UNS), Ar Dian Arrifianto Budi Susilo IAI (IAI Surakarta), and Ginda Chriesma Yoga ST (ORCA Incorporation).

The three judges assessed the dozens of submitted works and determined the Top 10 finalists for this competition. From these 10 finalists, Mochamad Husni Hakiki was chosen as the 1st Winner and Rohid Riza Nabhan as The 2nd Winner. This was announced on the Instagram account @halaman.uns on 12 May 2023.

This competition aims to increase creativity and ability in design visualization, as well as incorporate cultural elements into a public space design while still paying attention to the elements of beauty.

Following the provisions, Husni and Rohid focus on rendering objects at Pasar Gede Hardjonagoro, Surakarta. Pasar Gede Hardjonagoro is the largest market in Surakarta, which is full of historical value.

Pasar Gede in Javanese means big market. It is called that because this building has a large roof that combines Dutch and Javanese architectural styles, making it have its own historical value that will not go away with the times.

Surakarta, which is famous for its culture of courtesy, is supported by traditional transportation such as rickshaws and buggies. The addition of Surakarta’s typical batik ornaments supports forming an image of a thick cultural area with its locality.

“Because this market is located in the Chinatown area, the roof design is added with ornaments typical of Chinese buildings as a symbol of tolerance for the diversity of society and culture in the area,” Husni explained.

This 2020′ class student hopes that winning this competition can motivate other students to be creative and achieve something while carrying the local wisdom of their regional culture. [humasft]
