University of Rhode Island Collaborate with UB to Hold 1+1 Masters Program

The University of Rhode Island (URI) collaborates with Brawijaya University (UB) in organizing Masters and Graduate Certificate programs. This was conveyed by the Director, Business and Education Partnerships, Brook Williams Ross, in his presentation in front of UB leadership and lecturers, Thursday (18/1). The presentation by the campus session located in the United States was moderated by the Head of UPT International Academic Affairs, Dr. Didik Hartono, M.Pd, and attended by lecturers from the Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, and Postgraduate School.

In this presentation, Brook said that his party had been partnering with Indonesia for the past 50 years, especially with Bappenas. URI provides a cooperation scheme for organizing Masters and Graduate Certificate studies with a 1+1 scheme. With this scheme, students will study one year at UB and the next year at URI. “We have collaborated with several provincial governments in Indonesia through Bappenas. And they are ready to fund this collaboration to send their employees to school in this collaboration program,” said Brook.

Furthermore, URI proposed this collaboration to overcome the obstacles faced by prospective students. These include the problem of lack of English skills and the difficulty of leaving the family if they have to study for two full years in the United States. “We see that this cooperation scheme is a solution for everyone. The provincial government got benefits, as well as UB and URI,” he added.

Previously, URI delegation met with the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs and the Vice Rector for Planning and Cooperation in a closed meeting. During the meeting, the two leaders proposed other cooperation schemes that could be established with URI. These include a Doctoral program scheme for UB lecturers and joint research in the fields of fisheries and the environment. (IO/ UB PR/ Trans. Iir)
