Vientiane, Laos – Universitas Brawijaya (UB) continues to strengthen its international presence by hosting a promotion and student recruitment session at Double Tree by Hilton, Vientiane, on Thursday, February 20, 2025. The event organized by the International Office of UB aimed to attract more students from Southeast Asia, particularly through the Brawijaya International Student Scholarship (BISS) program, which is currently open for applications.
The session was attended by representatives from 20 international schools in Laos, including Vientiane International School, Kiettisack International School, Sainggara International School, and Australia International School. Students showed great enthusiasm for studying at UB, especially regarding the BISS scholarship, which covers tuition fees, monthly stipends, round-trip airfare, health insurance, and dormitory accommodation.
The enthusiasm for the scholarship was not only evident among students but also among teachers who accompanied them. Some students immediately applied on-site, while others took note of the information to apply after graduation, as they were still in 11th grade. Interestingly, even one of the attending teachers registered for the scholarship.
Dr. Didik Hartono, S.S., M.Pd., Head of UB’s International Academic Affairs, emphasized that this initiative aligns with UB’s mission to expand its global network. “We are carrying out the mission entrusted by the Rector of UB to increase the number of international students, particularly from Southeast Asia. Laos has significant potential, with a growing interest among students in pursuing higher education abroad. UB stands as one of the best choices for them,” he stated.
Support for this initiative also came from Aik Retno Utari, the Counselor of the Indonesian Embassy in Vientiane, who attended the event. A Solo-born diplomat, she expressed her commitment to helping disseminate information about the BISS scholarship to various educational institutions in Laos. “We see this program as a great opportunity for Laotian students who aspire to study abroad, particularly in Indonesia. The demand for overseas education among Laotian students is rising, and UB offers a highly competitive scholarship. We will assist in spreading this information to schools and educational institutions across Laos,” she said.
UB’s delegation will not only stop in Laos but will also continue their journey to Manila, the Philippines, for a similar agenda. This initiative showcases UB’s strong commitment to expanding its international academic network and solidifying its position as one of Asia’s leading universities.
