Professor of Universitas Brawijaya (UB), Prof. Drs. Arinto Yudi Ponco Wardoyo, M.Sc., Ph.D together with the team developed a tool for detecting metabolic products from the respiratory and digestive systems called UBreath Analysis.
This tool is able to identify and measure the concentration of substances from the metabolism of the respiratory and digestive systems through exhalation in the form of gases, particulates, and other parameters in total of 25. The measurement results from these parameters are then analyzed using Artificial Intelligence to identify the condition of the respiratory system and digestive system.
UBreath works by exhaling on a special bag before then this tool will measure the elements contained in the breathed air. This tool takes between 2-3 minutes to get results.
UBreath has been clinically tested on healthy people and Covid-19 survivors at dr. Saiful Anwar Malang and Malang Field Hospital with a total of 400 samples.
“The results obtained are that this tool can not only detect positive or negative Covid, but more specifically, this tool can classify them as non-symptoms people, mild, moderate, to severe,” explained the Professor of Physics.
Research conducted since the end of 2020 has resulted in an accuracy rate of more than 90 percent.
UBreath which was developed in collaboration with the team of Faculty of Medicine UB, namely Dr.dr Susanthy Djajalaksan.Sp.P(K), and Prof. Dr.dr. Teguh Wahju Sardjono, DTM&H., M.Sc., SPPark, is currently being clinically tested to screen for respiratory diseases, such as lung cancer, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) or Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), and Acute Respiratory Infections. (ISPA) with a team from the Faculty of Medicine.
“Patients with lung cancer usually late detected because they do not show symptoms at an early stage. Therefore, this tool is very good for initial screening, “he said. [Irene/ Humas UB/ Trans. Iir]
