The activity was carried out as a form of realization of the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education’s Matching Fund Program as well as an effort to realize the provision of independent seeds. This activity was attended by many participants ranging from local farmers, agricultural extension workers of Malaka Regency, Lecturers from Universitas Brawijaya represented by Yohana Avelia Sandy, SP., MP., MSc and Lecturers from Nusa Cendana University represented by Dr. Ir. I Gede Bagus Adwita Arsa, MP.

The material explained in this agricultural extension was about the procedures for cultivating rice seeds to obtain quality seeds.

Bagus explained that the concept of proper rice seed cultivation must apply seven main principles, namely, the right type, the right variety, the right quality, the right time, the right location, the right amount, and the right method.

Yohana Avelia said that in the seed cultivation process, several stages of procedures must be followed, namely seed sorting and treatment, land preparation, planting, maintenance, weeding, OPT control, selection/rouging, observed variables, tiling methods, harvesting and seed processing, seed supervision and certification, packaging, and storage. In addition, Yohana also added various types of rice seed diseases that farmers must pay attention to.

Universitas Brawijaya and Nusa Cendana University contribute ideas to develop agriculture in Malaka Regency to become a superior regency in the agricultural sector and can produce seeds independently.

The sustainability of this program is expected to enable farmers to produce seeds independently. (LIA/UB PR/ Trans. Iir).
