
Universitas Brawijaya (UB) becomes the host of the National Student Performance in the field of Information and Communication Technoloy (GEMASTIK) XVI 2023. The final stage of this event was held offline, Tuesday- Friday (12/9 – 16/9/ 2023) and participated by 221 teams from 70 universities then divided into 11 divisions of competition.

Chairman of GEMASTIK XVI Drs. Muhammad Arif Rahman, M.Kom said, GEMASTIK is a competition in the ICT field organized by the Ministry of Education and Culture under the National Achievement Center (Puspresnas). This year the total number of participants before being declared qualified for the final round was 2,781 teams from 315 universities.
Expert Staff for Talent Management at the Ministry of Education and Culture, Research and Technology, Tatang Muttaqin, S.Sos., M.Ed., Ph.D, when giving a speech, said that improving the quality of human resources is one of the focuses in the national medium-term development plan. Competitive human resources need to be equipped with mastery of science and technology as a catalyst for economic growth for the nation’s progress.
“The Ministry of Education and Culture is committed to facilitating the talented young generation. “One of them is through the implementation of GEMASTIK to test and improve students’ mastery of ICT as well as increasing students’ awareness in utilizing science and technology to produce highly competitive innovative products,” said Tatang.
According to him, GEMASTIK participants not only excel in the field of ICT, but also have the opportunity to collaborate in forming the character of students who are outstanding, creative, tough and love their country. This is in line with MBKM’s policy which encourages students to excel in academics and become individuals who are innovative, highly competitive and have character.

All activities during the implementation of GEMASTIK are streamed via UB YouTube channel, with the aim of providing learning for the teams that will struggle next year. Arif Rahman also congratulated the competition and hoped that the participants would uphold sportsmanship like GEMASTIK slogan “Honest is Champion!”
In his report, Arif Rahman conveyed how important GEMASTIK is as a prestigious event in the world of ICT student competitions in Indonesia. This year the final activities were carried out completely offline whereas in the previous year the final activities were carried out in a hybrid manner due to the pandemic.
Arif Rahman also said that FILKOM UB has also prepared 28 rooms for final activities which are divided into each building, some are also located in halls or auditoriums (Algorithm Auditorium). In addition, FILKOM also provides a transit room for participants before entering the competition room so that student participants can be better prepared when the competition starts.
Meanwhile. Vice Rector for Student Affairs, Alumni and Student Entrepreneurship, Dr. Setiawan Noerdajasakti, S.H., M.H said that GEMASTIK is an important forum for channeling creativity, innovative thinking and technological abilities of students throughout Indonesia.
“As the host, UB feels honored by the trust given by Puspresnas and the Ministry. “GEMASTIK is expected to become a forum of inspiration for ICT students to continue to innovate in helping solve problems in society through technology,” said Noerdajasakti.
Noerdajasakti added that apart from being a competition activity, it is hoped that the competition participants can expand their knowledge, networks and relationships between universities so that in the future there will be leaders who are experts in the field of ICT for Indonesia.
This year, UB contingent was represented by 9 teams, 7 teams from FILKOM and 2 teams from FT (Faculty of Engineering). Over the next 3 (three) days, all participants will carry out final activities at FILKOM UB and will close on Friday (15/9/2023) at the Samantha Krida Building.
The following is the number of GEMASTIK XVI participants who entered the final round from 11 competition divisions announced by the Indonesian Talent Development Center (BPTI) Puspresnas Kemdikbudristek. (1) Programming = 20 participants. (2) Cyber Security = 20 participants. (3) Data Mining = 20 participants. (4) User Experience Design (UX Design) = 20 participants. (5) Animation = 20 participants. (6) Smart City = 20 participants. (7) ICT (ICT Scientific Science) Writing Paper = 21 participants. (8) Device Development Software (Software Development) = 20 participants. (9) Smart Devices, Embedded Systems, and IoT (Smart Devices, Embedded Systems & IoT) = 20 participants. (10) Game Application Development (Game Development) = 20 participants. (11) ICT Business Development = 20 participants.
