Universitas Brawijaya (UB) was chosen to be the coordinator of the National Social Community Forum (FORNASSOMA) of Indonesian Student Executive Boards (BEM). Selection of UB as FORNASSOSMA BEM coordinator throughout Indonesia was carried out through the National Work Conference (Mukernas) on (6/5-11/5/2023).
The appointment of UB as the National Coordinator received a positive response from the Student Executive President, Rafly Rayhan Al Khajri. He said that the election of UB as the National Coordinator at FORNASSOSMA would bring a new perspective on community service which of course departs from Based on Problems and is problem solving oriented or Solve Oriented.
“Hopefully in the future, the principle of collaboration is impactful to the community and environmentally oriented by considering harmonious social and environmental ecosystems, especially for marginalized communities,” said Rafly.
He added that there are several programs that are aligned with community service, one of which is the development of environment- and culture-based tourism as well as touching on regulations on public policy and encouraging people to be more critical.
In line with this, Zidni Ilmansyah Coordinating Minister for Community Service EM UB hopes that with the election of Brawijaya as the National Coordinator it can boost institutions and make a real contribution at the National level.
“There is one program that distinguishes this year’s FORNASSOMA from the previous one, which in the future we will not only carry out empowerment and community service activities, but also advocacy movements and touch stakeholders in public policy,” said Zidni.
Therefore, he continued, UB can show its quality as the National Coordinator of FORNASSOSMA in this period.
UB Rector, Prof. Widodo, S.Si.,M.Si. also respond to this news with great joy. According to him, by appointing UB as the National Coordinator, it is a matter of pride to be able to work together and fully contribute in resolving issues nationally.
“Of course this is a momentum and opportunity so that UB students also have pride even though the location is far from the capital, but they can still contribute and be more active in building discourse for changes in the wider and bigger nation of Indonesia, especially related to social society.”
Prof. Widodo added, UB has many programs related to society, one of which is Doctor Service program where lecturers and students can carry out community service activities and build culture not only in East Java, but throughout Indonesia. [Humas UB/ Trans. Iir]
