UB Accepts 1.692 Postgraduate Students

A total of 1,692 new students (MABA) of the 2024/2025 Academic Year of Postgraduate Program Universitas Brawijaya (UB) participated in the Education and Student Orientation (ORDIK) activity. The activity was held on Wednesday (8/21/2024) at the Samantha Krida Building, UB.

Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ir. Imam Santoso, M.P said that from the 1,692 Postgraduate new students accepted, 1,313 were Masters (S2) New Students, and 379 were Doctoral (S3) New Students. The largest number of recipients were the Faculty of Economics and Business which accepted 198 master new students and 58 doctoral new students, the Faculty of Engineering (157 master new students and 58 doctoral new students), and the Faculty of Law (137 master new students, and 19 doctoral new students).

Postgraduate new students consist of various entrance selection paths, namely Fast Track or the accelerated path for undergraduate students continuing to masters (285 people), International Path (8 people), Masters Education Path to Doctorate for Excellent Scholars (PMDSU) for master students who directly continue to doctoral (21 people), Regular Path (1,359 people), and RPL path (19 people). Foreign Postgraduate students accepted by UB include Palestine, Afghanistan, Timor Leste, and Sudan.

“As UB is currently ranked 818th in the World University Ranking by QS, postgraduate students are mandated, especially for doctoral programs, to publish at least two articles in indexed international journals. This is a graduation requirement in addition to GPA and study period. In 2025, UB targets to publish at least 4,000 articles in reputable international journals,” said Imam.

This activity was attended by the Commissioner of Menara Syariah Jakarta, Harianto Solichin, MSc as the main speaker. To the new students of masters and doctoral, he said that it is necessary to have an entrepreneurial spirit.

“Whatever profession you take, you must have an entrepreneurial spirit, namely being able to start something from zero to achieve the desired results, which will bring benefits to yourself, your family, and society,” said Harianto.

He added that the key to success is hard work, smart work, honesty, focus, passionate about your work, determined, agile, and blessed.

Other speakers present were Dhiana Puspitawati, SH., LLM., Ph.D from the Center for Scientific Publication and Journal Resilience UB with the material “Resilience and Publication of Scientific Journals”; Director of the Directorate of Information Technology Dr. Raden Arief Setiawan, S.T., M.T with the material “Technology and Information Systems to Achieve Quality and Reputable UB”; and Director of UB Clinic drg. Miftakhul Cahyati, Sp.PM with the material “Socialization of Services at the UB Clinic”

UB Rector Prof. Widodo, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D.Med.Sc when opening the event said that this is a moment to start developing a career, network and competence. There are many challenges facing this country, ranging from food, health, environment, social conflict, and regional.

“As part of the nation, we need to think about knowledge innovation to solve problems so that the country becomes an independent country. This is a challenge for new students to partner with lecturers to hone themselves with knowledge, research, and innovation,” said the Chancellor.

The Director of the Postgraduate School, Prof. Dr. Moh. Khusaini, S.E., M.Sc., M.A., said that this year the Postgraduate School is opening a new study program, namely Leadership and Policy Innovation which emphasizes digital leadership, and 10 students have been accepted.

“This is to answer the needs and challenges of the times where millennial leaders are needed who are based on digital leadership. With various digital phenomena, Artificial Intelligence, and increasingly sophisticated technology, policies and leadership must adapt to the development of the times, which can provide policies based on accurate analytical data or evidence-based policies,” concluded Khusaini.

New Postgraduate students accepted by UB in the 2024/2025 Academic Year consist of students from the Faculty of Economics and Business (256 people), Faculty of Law (156 people), Faculty of Administrative Sciences (114 people), Faculty of Cultural Studies (13 people), Faculty of Health Sciences (70 people), Faculty of Computer Science (43 people), Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (110 people), Faculty of Medicine (96 people), Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (154 people), Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (56 people), Faculty of Agriculture (147 people), Faculty of Animal Husbandry (61 people), Faculty of Engineering (215 people), Faculty of Agricultural Technology (62 people), Postgraduate School (138 people), and Non-Faculty (1 person).
