Universitas Brawijaya (UB) has again shown an increase in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025 ranking. In this latest edition, UB has succeeded in placing six fields of study in the world ranking list out of a total of 33 subjects eligible to be ranked at UB.
Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Prof. Dr. Imam Santoso, MP said that this achievement is an increase compared to the previous year which recorded five fields of study. This positive trend shows an increase from previous years, where UB only had two subjects included in the ranking in 2021, three subjects in 2022 and 2023, and five subjects in 2024. Medicine is a newcomer in 2025 to be included in the QS by Subject ranking.
“The increase in the number of subjects included in the ranking shows global recognition of UB’s academic and research quality,” said Imam Santoso.
The data shows that UB has consistently increased the number of fields of study included in the ranking. In the past five years, the number of subjects included in the top 500 list has continued to increase, from one subject in 2021 to five subjects in 2024 and 2025. In addition, one UB field of study has remained in the world’s top 300 since 2021.
From the six fields of study included in the ranking, here is UB’s position in each category: Agriculture & Forestry: Rank 251-300; Accounting & Finance: Ranking 301-375; Law: Ranking 351-400; Economics & Econometrics: Ranking 401-450; Business & Management Studies: Ranking 451-500; and Medicine: Ranking 701-850.
Overall, the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025 evaluated 5,203 institutions worldwide, with 1,747 institutions published in various subject categories. This ranking involves 55 fields of study published in 148 geographical locations. The increase in the number of subjects included in this ranking shows that UB is increasingly competitive at the global level.
“This increase reflects UB’s success in strengthening its academic reputation and increasing research output in various fields of study. Factors such as improving the quality of scientific publications, strengthening international collaboration, and investment in academic resources also play a role in this achievement. Universitas Brawijaya’s success is the result of the hard work of all UB academics in improving the quality of education and research,” he explained.
UB Rector, Prof. Widodo, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D.Med.Sc said that this ranking is an important achievement for UB, but the more important is how this ranking is used as a measure to develop UB’s academic capacity to be able to compete at the world level.
“By using the ranking as an evaluation tool, UB can continue to improve the quality of research, teaching, and international collaboration in order to create a broader impact in the academic and industrial worlds,” said the Rector.
To improve quality, UB implements various internationally oriented academic development programs such as Adjunct Professor, Visiting Lecturer, 3in1, UB Stars, Dokar, and a program for writing 4000 articles in reputable journals. [*/UB PR/ Trans. Iir]
