The Head of UB Ranking Center, Adharul Muttaqin S.T., M.T in Malang, said THE Impact Ranking this time saw how concern and contribution of a university in the success of SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) programs. THE measures how the academic aspects, publications, innovations, and activities of universities support the 17 goals in the SDGs.
Adharul added, in this 2021 edition, UB shows its participation in all 17 existing goals, even four of them are in the top 200, namely No Poverty, Zero Hunger. Life below Water, and Life on Land. However, to determine the whole ranking, it is based on the compulsory category score, which is the goal of the 17th Partnership for The Goals and the three categories with the best score. UB has the best score on Life on Land in the 52nd world rank, Decent Work and Economic Work on 201st -300th world rank, and Zero Hunger on the ranking 101-200.
“In the criteria of Life on Land, UB is able to show its support capacity to maintain terrestrial ecosystems, both in academic and non-academic activities. UB is very supportive, with the compost processing center and UB is responsible in managing the educational forest in Karangploso can be a proof, “he said.
The criteria for Decent Work and Economic Work (Decent work and economic growth) relate to the function of university as educational institutions as well as employers that should be able to provide innovations in how to develop new and fairer ways of working. The existence of UPKK as a Job Placement Center in UB is also seen as an effort to achieve the SDGs.
Meanwhile, in the Zero Hunger criterion (Hunger Free) measures how university is able to show its contribution to end hunger, achieving food security, improving nutrition, and promoting sustainable agriculture. As one of the campuses that has the best agricultural fields in Indonesia, UB has a big role in the national food security program.
“In this criterion, campus is also required to have awareness of the remaining food consumption, and must produce the lowest possible food waste. The activities included in this case are aimed at preventing the threat of hunger for students, as last year UB did for students who could not return to their hometown due to the pandemic, “he said.
