Universitas Brawijaya (UB) recorded an extraordinary achievement by winning the Performance Improvement Award in the QS Higher Ed Summit Asia Pacific 2024 event. This award was given based on UB’s significant improvement in the global and regional rankings of the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Asia University Rankings 2025, in recognition of its ongoing efforts in improving academic quality and reputation in the international arena.
QS awarded this award to three universities in Asia that showed the highest ranking improvement in the last five years. This year, QS gave seven award categories, each received by the three best universities in each category. This award was received directly by the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Prof. Imam Santoso, on (7/11/2024).
This achievement also marks UB’s achievement as one of the top 200 best campuses in Asia, ranking 172nd. The Head of Reputation Work Unit, which is responsible for international ranking data, emphasized that this increase is not the final goal, but rather the result of hard work and continuous efforts in improving internal processes to support the implementation of the Tri Dharma of higher education.
UB successfully won this award because of the last five years, it has recorded a significant increase, from ranking 301 in 2020 to 172 in 2025. From 2015 to 2020, UB was in the range of positions 301-350 and only experienced a slight increase in 2018. However, since 2021, UB has begun to show a positive trend, emerging from the stagnation zone by reaching a ranking of 271-280 in that year, and continuing to experience gradual improvements in 2022 and 2023. In 2024 and 2025, this jump in position was even more significant, with UB placed 208 rank and then 172.
This improvement was driven by UB’s efforts to strengthen research, expand international collaboration, and improve human resources and supporting facilities. This is proof of UB’s commitment to continue strengthening its position through academic quality, innovation, and sustainable collaboration.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Imam Santoso expressed his pride in this achievement, but also reminded the importance of continuing to innovate. “We must continue to strive to improve performance and innovate. Otherwise, UB could be passed over and left behind by other universities,” he said. (*/UB PR/ Trans. Iir).
