UB Maintains Rank 4 Indonesia in Webometrics 2025

UB’s Webometric Ranking Achievements January 2025

Universitas Brawijaya (UB) has again made a brilliant achievement by maintaining its 4th ranking in Indonesia in the January 2025 edition of the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities. Globally, UB is in 914th position, demonstrating strong competitiveness at the international level and consistency in improving digital-based academic quality.

In this ranking, Universitas Indonesia (UI) remains the top in Indonesia with a ranking of 503 in the world, followed by Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) at 666 in the world, and the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) at 803 in the world. UB, which is ranked 4th nationally, continues to strengthen its position as one of the best universities in Indonesia in terms of openness to knowledge and global academic visibility.

Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ir. Imam Santoso, M.P said, UB continues to strive to improve the quality and quantity of scientific publications and digitalization to achieve a better ranking in the future.

Webometrics Ranking assesses universities based on three main indicators. The first is Impact (Visibility), which is the influence and involvement of universities in the digital world, measured by the number of unique external links leading to UB site. The second is Openness (Transparency) which is measured by the number of academic citations from UB researchers in Google Scholar Profiles. Third, Excellence (Scholar) which is seen from the number of UB scientific publications that are included in the top 10% of highly reputable journals in Scimago.

This ranking shows the effectiveness of UB’s strategy in increasing research accessibility, academic digitalization, and quality scientific publications that can be accessed by the global academic community.

“UB’s position in Webometrics 2025 is still the same as in 2024, where UB was also ranked 4th in Indonesia and 780th in the world. “Although there is an adjustment in the global ranking this year, UB continues to show stable performance in the indicators used by Webometrics,” said Imam Santoso.

As a world-class research university, UB will continue to strengthen its position through several strategic steps. First, UB will encourage an increase in international scientific publications by expanding research collaboration with global universities. Second, UB will provide the widest possible opportunity for lecturers to expand their international academic network, including increasing cooperation with leading higher education institutions. Third, UB will also continue to optimize the use of digital technology to support open access to knowledge and improve the university’s academic image at the global level.

To support this achievement, in addition to the routine programs that have been running, this year UB presents three superior programs from the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs designed to accelerate global academic cooperation, namely: UB Stars, Visiting Professor & Practitioner Lecturer, and Adjunct Professor.

UB invites all academics to continue to innovate and contribute to the development of science that has a broad impact on society. With this achievement, UB is increasingly optimistic in facing global challenges and strengthening its position as a leading university at the world level. [UPTReputasi/Irene/ UB PR/ Trans. Iir]
