Strengthening collaboration with foreign universities is an important factor in efforts to build an international reputation. This importance can be seen from efforts to accelerate and strengthen strategic programs in the form of double degree programs, joint degrees, student mobility, faculty mobility, research collaboration and international publications.
In this context, UB fulfilled the invitation of the Taiwanese Ministry of Education to visit and discuss with a number of leading universities in Taiwan on November 12-15, 2024. UB delegation was led directly by the Rector of Universitas Brawijaya, Prof. Widodo. Also included in the group were the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Prof. Imam Santoso, the Dean of FMIPA and several heads of departments. The first day’s visit to a number of campuses, namely: National Taiwan University (NTU), National Taiwan University Science & Technology (NTUST), Yun Ze University (YZU) and Chung Yuan Christian University (CYCU).
On the first day, the first visit was made to National Taiwan University (NTU). UB team was received directly by the Vice President of International Affairs, Hsiao-Wei, Yuan, Ph.D., Executive Vice President, Stone Shih-Tong Ding, Ph.D. and several other officials such as Associate Dean, Prof. Je-Ruei Liu and Sheila Wu as Manager of Global Engagement. A very productive discussion was held, especially to facilitate each other in strengthening international networks through the activation of the international offices of both parties in helping to establish more intensive communication in supporting a number of programs, such as adjunct professor, Research Matching fund, and other programs. Intensive discussions were also held regarding collaboration in the development of material science and several other potential sciences.
The second visit, UB team was received by the leadership of NTUST or better known as Taiwan Tech, and was received directly by the president of Taiwan Tech, Prof. Jia-YushYen, Vice President, Prof. Jhy-Chern Liu, Vice President for International Affairs, Prof. Ying-Jung Yeh, and several other staff. In addition to the signing of the Cooperation between UB and Taiwan Tech, it was also discussed and agreed to be followed up, including the double degree program, adjunct professor, faculty and student mobility, UB STARS (UB Student Academic Research Scheme) with support from the Taiwanese government program TEEP and IIPP, joint conference, joint PhD supervision, joint research fund, double and dual degree. All of these programs are in line with the programs owned by both parties. To accelerate this, UB will form a coordinator from each university in Taiwan.
After lunch, the 3rd visit on the first day continued to Yuan Ze University. During the visit, UB team was received directly by the President, Ching-Jong Liao, Ph.D, and Associate Vice President & CEO for the Office of Research and Development, Alex Wei, Ph.D and several professors such as Yu-Hong Wei, Ph.D and Isack Farady, Ph.D, Dien Giau Bui, Ph.D and Yoyo Hsiao as Project Manager, Global Affairs Office. Many strategic programs were discussed and YZU is ready to support the implementation of UB programs, especially for Adjunct Professor and UB STARS. This collaboration is not only aimed at strengthening faculty and student exchange, but also oriented to support strengthening research and publication of international collaboration.
The 4th visit on the first day was with Chung Yuan Christian University (CYCU). UB team was received directly by Vice President Ying-Yi Hong, Ph.D. IET Fellow, dean, department head and professor. The discussion with CYCU went smoothly and was very productive. CYCU supports and is ready to collaborate in a number of UB programs including UB STARS and Adjunct Professor and a number of other collaborative programs. In addition to discussions with CYCU leaders, meetings were also held with lecturers who are continuing their studies around Taipei. (IS/UB PR/ Trans. Iir)
