Universitas Brawijaya (UB) won the 8th place in Indonesia and 1168th in the world according to Edu Rank.
Vice Rector for Planning, Cooperation and Internationalization Andi Kurniawan, S.Pi, M.Eng., D.Sc explained that the assessment carried out by Edu Rank was taken using a fairly scientific methodology, namely 45 percent based on academic performance, 45 percent non-academic and 10 percent based on alumni.
“Edurank uses data that we deserve to trust, namely digital track records such as Microsoft data base, source engines such as Google and other institutional affiliates so that what they report is indeed worthy of being used as an evaluation material to see UB achievements compared to other universities, he said.
However, Andi revealed that actually the assessment that UB got could be higher than what is currently achieved.
“Why don’t we truly reach the position’s true potential? because of our weakness is in data. There are still many data we provide that are not in the standards they use, such as the data on the results of publications by lecturers. The publications of our lecturers are actually much more. This can happen because the system is not fully integrated. For example, in terms of the need for international rankings, UB lecturers have not updated SINTA, so the data in SISTER also does not show all publications, so the potential value for publication achievements is also not optimal,” he said.
Andi added that UB rank team gets data from digital traces, while UB itself does not specifically oversee or provide the data.
“From there, I conclude that UB’s potential score is actually better. This can be an input for us, especially in this digital era. We have to consider what people see and judge us from our digital footprints,” he said. [Humas UB/ Trans. Iir]
