Universitas Brawijaya (UB) has again achieved a brilliant achievement in the QS Sustainability Ranking 2025. In the ranking released on December 10, 2024, UB managed to rank 653rd in the world out of 1,744 institutions, and 7th in Indonesia. This achievement shows a significant increase compared to the previous year, while also emphasizing UB’s commitment in supporting sustainability.
UB Rector, Prof. Widodo, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D.Med.Sc., said that this achievement is the result of the hard work of the entire academic community.
“This increase is a real proof of UB’s dedication in building an institution that not only focuses on education and research, but also has a broad impact on society and the environment,” said Prof. Widodo.
In the governance category, UB recorded the highest score with 88.9 and is ranked 179th in the world. This aspect assesses decision transparency, organizational ethics, and student representation in decision-making. UB Chancellor stated that this success reflects effective governance, which is an important foundation for facing global challenges.
Another prominent indicator is knowledge exchange, where UB achieved a score of 72.6 and was ranked 567th in the world. This indicator measures UB’s contribution in building research collaboration and its impact on society.
Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ir. Imam Santoso, M.P., added, “We continue to encourage research collaboration with other institutions to create relevant and impactful innovations, both locally and globally.”
Meanwhile, UB also recorded positive results in the indicators of environmental education, equality, employment opportunities, and environmental sustainability. In the environmental education category, UB is ranked 348th in the world, while in environmental sustainability, UB is ranked 699th in the world. Although still facing challenges in several indicators, such as health and welfare impacts, UB continues to be committed to improve performance in all aspects.
“This achievement motivates us to continue to innovate and collaborate in achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs),” said Prof. Widodo.
QS Sustainability Ranking assesses universities based on three main categories, namely environmental, social, and governance impacts.
