Universitas Brawijaya on Monday (2/18/2019) signed a cooperation agreement with the Ministry of Religion’s Halal Product Guarantee Agency (BPJPH). The signing was represented by UB’s Chancellor Prof. Dr. Nuhfil Hanani, MS, and Head of BPJPH Prof. Ir. Sukoso, MSc, P.hD in Banquet Room on the 6th floor of UB’s Rectorate Building.
Prof. Sukoso, who is also a lecturer at the UB Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, said that his presence was not only to establish cooperation with UB, he also had the duty to socialize the Law Number 33 of 2014 concerning Halal Product Guarantees which came into force as of October 17, 2019. became the formal foundation for the establishment of BPJPH and the implementation of halal certification for all products both goods and services entering Indonesia.
The implementation of halal certification opens opportunities for campus graduates to become halal auditors for companies that sell their products in Indonesia. The amount needed is very much, 25 thousand. But unfortunately, 1200 auditors were only met with 7 auditors from UB. This auditor will include cross-scientific studies including pharmacy, medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine for drug audits, for example. Whereas for auditors in the field of food can be filled with students graduating from the Faculty of Agricultural Technology, Animal Husbandry, and Fisheries.
Brawijaya University also has a real role in the development of halal products by having Halalan Thoyyiban Canteen that has received a halal certificate from MUI East Java. In addition, UB also has a Halal Thoyyib Science Center and Halal Insurance Agency (HIA). But, Sukoso said that LPH at the university level could not issue halal certification.
