UB Co-hosts International Conference in Thailand, Discussing Food Security and Climate Change

Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Universitas Brawijaya (UB) Prof. Dr. Imam Santoso led UB delegation as the Organizing Committee together with the SEARCA team and ASEAN universities in the International Conference on Micro-credentials and Research for Food Security and Climate Change (PMCFSCC).

The PMCFSCC International Conference which took place on 10–12 February 2025 at Amari Hotel, Pattaya, Thailand was organized by the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) and co-funded by the European Union through the Erasmus+ program, in collaboration with SEARCA member partner universities acting as co-hosts.

One of the important agendas in this conference is the Inauguration Ceremony of PMCFSCC Modules, which includes the signing of the Consortium Agreement on the Joint Offering of the Micro-credentials on Food Security and Climate Change (PMCFSCC).

This agreement involves various universities and institutions from the Southeast Asian region and surrounding, aiming at strengthening the micro-credentials-based learning system in the field of food security and climate change mitigation.

In the scientific presentation session, this conference raised various strategic topics, such as curriculum design, learning technology, carbon credits in the agricultural sector, and innovation for food security and sustainability.

Prof. Imam Santoso participated in discussions involving academics, researchers, and industry representatives from various countries.

The conference was attended by a number of honorary figures and influential academics from various international institutions, including Dr. Evaristo A. Abella (President, Central Luzon State University, Philippines), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sathaporn Chuepeng (Vice Chancellor, Kasetsart University, Thailand), Prof. Cheng-Hsien Lin (National Chung Hsing University, Taiwan), Prof. Poonpipope Kasemsap (Kasetsart University, Thailand), Dr. Weerapon Thongma (President, Maejo University, Thailand), and Dr. Nur Azura binti Adam (Deputy Director of SEARCA, Philippines).

The conference aims to discuss the role of micro-credentials and research results in enhancing climate change mitigation capacity and food security.

The event opened with a plenary session featuring prominent keynote speakers, including Dr. Glenn Gregorio, Director of SEARCA, who discussed Capacity Building in Food Security and Climate Change, and Assoc. Prof. Witsanu Attavanich from Kasetsart University, Thailand, who delivered insights on the impact of climate change on Thailand’s food security.

The conference closed with a collaborative session on the future of micro-credentials in the higher education system, and their impact on global food security. UB also played a role in the collaborative session on the development of innovations related to micro-credentials and the research results of SEARCA scholars and alumni in the field of food security and climate change mitigation.
