Universitas Brawijaya (UB) in collaboration with the Bulan Sabit Merah Indonesia (BSMI) on Saturday (7/13/2024) held an International Palestine Seminar, which was centered at UB Widyaloka Building.
The seminar with the theme “Solidarity and Humanity, Standing Together for Palestine”, presented speakers including the Chairperson of the BSMI MPA, Prof. Dr. dr Basuki Supartono Sp.OT, Chairperson of UB Palestine Solidarity Program Prof. Dr. Setyo Widagdo, SH., M.Hum., Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Living Boarding School Malaysia YB Senator Puan Hajah Fuziah binti Salleh, Director-General of the Ministry of Health in Gaza dr. Medhat Abbas, Director of Palestine Collaboration Office dr. Mai Arif, as well as the General Chairperson of DPN BSMI M. Djazuli Ambari and also attended by GAZA Journalist, Ibrahim Aida.
Meanwhile, from Universitas Brawijaya, the Chairperson of UB Senate, Prof. Dr. ir. Huhfil Hanani, A.R. M.S., Chairperson of UB Professor Council, Prof. Dr. H. Armanu, SE., M.Sc., Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Dr. Setiawan Noerdajasakti, SH., M.H., and Secretary of the University Dr. Tri Wahyu Nugroho, S.P., M.Si. While UB Chancellor, Prof. Widodo, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D.Med.Sc., on that occasion participated in the activity online.
In his remarks, UB Chancellor said that in this seminar everyone gathered at UB not only as individuals with diverse backgrounds but as one voice in humanity that stands to uphold justice for Palestine.
“The Palestinian issue is not only a regional conflict issue, but has become a global humanitarian issue that requires not only attention but also real action from all international communities,” he said. “This is all a matter of justice, dignity, and human rights to be able to live in peace, safety, and free from fear of oppression,” added Prof. Widodo.
It was also conveyed that this activity was not only a symbolic event for UB’s concern for Palestinian independence, but also an important commitment of UB and the Indonesian people in general as members of the global community to uphold justice and support a peaceful resolution for Palestine, committed to upholding justice, principles of human rights and equality.
Meanwhile, the Head of MPA BSMI Prof. Dr. dr Basuki Supartono Sp.OT., in his speech conveyed the importance of solidarity and humanity for Palestine. According to him, the conflict situation in Palestine requires support from various parties, “International support means a lot to those who are fighting for basic rights. Let us continue to support the Palestinian people,” he said.
Prof. Basuki also expressed his respect and gratitude to Universitas Brawijaya for its commitment and support for the Palestinian people’s struggle. UB is one of the universities in Indonesia that has provided real assistance to the Palestinian people’s struggle. UB has even formed UB Palestine Solidarity Program team as a form of concern and support for Palestine.
In this seminar, in addition to the presentation of materials by several speakers, there was also a signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) as a form of further cooperation between UB and BSMI, as well as the provision of specialist medical education scholarships to doctors from Palestine.
