Brawijaya University (UB) plans to verify data related to a number of information circulating on social media regarding students who receive the Indonesian Smart College Card (KIP-K) who live a hedonistic lifestyle.
“We will re-evaluate students’ suitability as KIP-K recipients. There are 3 stages of the process that will be carried out. First, record and identify the names of students appearing on social media as well as the names of those reported through UB-Care. Second, continuing the evaluation process for KIP-K recipients which is routinely carried out every semester. And third, summon the reported students for further evaluation.” Explained the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, Alumni and Student Entrepreneurship, Dr. Setiawan Noerdajasakti, SH., MH.
He added, so far UB is still receiving reports that Student Affairs has recorded and identified the names of students who appear on social media, as well as receiving reports both directly to student affairs and through the UB-Care service. Meanwhile, further investigations will be carried out later. After verifying the data and if strong indications of fraud are found, we will invite them to confirm and evaluate.
Head of the Sub-Directorate of Student Welfare and Entrepreneurship, Ilhamuddin, explained that at UB, the selection process for prospective KIP-K recipients is carried out in layers. First, once students register, their data will be entered into the central KIP-K system. This data has been verified by the KIP system. Second, the data is then downloaded and selected based on generally determined criteria, such as being economically disadvantaged and having the potential for academic achievement. After selection, names appear that can be nominated as KIP recipients. Third, data on prospective recipients is synchronized with data inputted by students when registering at UB. If the data entered is in accordance with data entered at the center, then the student can be nominated as a potential recipient. On the other hand, if there is data that is not in sync, then the name is removed from the potential recipient and re-evaluated. Fourth, carry out a field evaluation to determine the feasibility and suitability of candidates to become KIP-K recipients. This field evaluation is still limited to being carried out in East Java due to limited resources. Meanwhile, those from outside East Java are evaluated based on system data.
At UB, Ilham added, students who receive KIP-K scholarships receive continuous coaching and evaluation every semester. Mental development, soft skills, character development and professional behavior, as well as how to behave wisely on social media. There is an explicit evaluation of academic performance, namely that the GPA each semester must not be below three and are not allowed to take time off from college unless there is serious ill.
As additional information, the amount of the KIP-K scholarship is IDR. 950,000 per month which is given at the beginning of each semester. The scholarship is used for living expenses, housing costs and book purchasing costs.
Meanwhile, from 2020 to 2023 the number of students receiving KIP K scholarships is 6,568 with the following details
In 2023 there were 1,071 (KIP K) and 704 (Education Fee Assistance). In 2022 there were 1,634; in 2021 there were 1,942; and in 2020 there were 1,921. (OKY/UB PR/ Trans. Iir).
