Responding to the flash flood that hit Malang Regency, Universitas Brawijaya through the Faculty of Medicine sent a team of Emergency Medicine. This team went for Krajan Kulon Hamlet, Sitiarjo Village, Sumbermanjing Wetan District, Malang Regency on Monday night (17/10/2022). Over several days, this team will conduct a field assessment of the health needs and impacts of the flood disaster.
According to the Head of the UB Medical Faculty Community Service Team, dr.Ariani, M.Kes., Sp.A(K), flash floods and landslides in several areas resulted in the paralysis of road access with many affected victims. “So, we from the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Brawijaya, took action quickly and coordinated with related agencies in Malang Regency to get access to information and go directly to help the affected people,” she explained.
EMT which consists of dr. Aurick Yudha Nagara, Sp.EM as emergency specialist, Mauludin Hakim as ambulance driver, Riva’ah Al Ibdha and Nanda Zahrotul Firdaus who are students of Nursing Study Program, Faculty of Health Sciences and members of LAKESMA FK UB. In addition, there are also M. Tuki and Edi Santoso as additional personnel from the Rectorate of Universitas Brawijaya who help providing clean water, by bringing 1 unit of water tank car.
“The current need is a water pump to clean the road from mud and stones so that road access is easier for non-off-road cars to pass,” explained Aurick via text message. Meanwhile, pumps are used to speed up the draining of muddy wells, and tankers are used to distribute clean water to residents.
In addition to carrying water tanks and ambulances, the EMT team also brought supplies such as eucalyptus oil and medicines, emergency equipment (airway and breathing) and medical equipment, 70 adult blankets, 200 baby diapers, 150 sanitary napkins, elderly diapers and baby swaddles.
During the handling of the flash flood disaster in Sitiarjo Village, the Disaster team of FK UB in collaboration with FK alumni opened a donation channel for all Universitas Brawijaya civitas through the listed account number. Donations collected will be used for the needs of disaster victims. (VQ)
