Decreasing Stunting Rates, MMD Conducts Socialization in Banyuwangi Regency

The 2024 Students Build Village of Universitas Brawijaya (MMD UB) groups 63 Pesucen and 64 Bulusari held a work program related to stunting prevention.

The activity with the leading work program ‘Socialization of Stunting and Early Marriage Prevention’ as the leading activity, was filled directly by the speaker who is a Lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Brawijaya, Dr. Ariani, Sp.A.

The activity which was carried out on Tuesday, (23/7/2024) at the Pesucen Village Hall is a collaborative work program by two 2024 MMD UB groups guided by Zulfaidah Penata Gama, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D.

This joint socialization was attended by all PKK mothers and Karang Taruna from both villages, namely Bulusari and Pesucen, with a total number of guests attending around 50 people.

Dr. Ariani said that the condition of stunting in toddlers is caused by chronic malnutrition, which makes the child’s body shorter than the size of their peers.

She added that the lack of knowledge of mothers about health and nutrition can also have an effect on poor practices in providing nutritional intake for children in the first 1000 days of life.

Several other structural problems such as limited ANC (Antenatal Care) services, PNC (Postnatal Care) for pregnant women, to the lack of access to clean water and adequate sanitation, she said would extend the government’s homework list to reduce the high rate of stunting in Indonesia.

In addition to stunting socialization, a series of other work programs carried out by the Bulusari 64 group also include the socialization of ‘ISI PIRINGKU’  or content of my plate and the practice of making ice roll which was carried out at SDN 1 Bulusari to build awareness of the importance of balanced nutritional needs as early as possible.

Through these activities, it is hoped that with good cooperation between the government, academics, and the community, the stunting rate in Banyuwangi Regency can be reduced significantly in the near future. [team/anindya/UB PR/ Trans. Iir]
