Sexual violence experienced by the academic community of a campus is still common. Avoiding something similar to be happened in UB, BEM FISIP conducts socialization on the prevention of sexual violence, one of which is holding a discussion with the Integrated Service Unit for Sexual Violence and Bullying (ULTKSP), Monday (31/10/2022).
With the theme “Searching for Safe Spaces Without Sexual Violence and Bullying”, three presenters were presented in this discussion, namely Dr. Bambang Dwi Prasetyo (Vice Dean for Student Affairs, Alumni and Entrepreneurship FISIP UB), Umu Hilmy (Women Crisis Center), Erza Killian Ph.D (ULTKSP FISIP UB).
One of the questions asked by participants was about the transparency of sexual violence that has occurred so far. For this matter, Erza Kiliian revealed that ULTKSP will make an annual report, especially how many cases have been received and how many have been handled.
“However, if transparency is carried out on a case-by-case, it will be difficult. But if the case is indeed ‘Wow, then go ahead because this transparency is also related to whether the victim wants it or not,” he said.
Umu Hilmy from the Women Crisis Center suggested that the transparency of sexual violence cases could be done every semester. However, he reminded that if transparency is carried out, it is forbidden to mention who the people involved are.
“Because this concerns the completion of the handling if the case is handled by the police,” she said.

Meanwhile, the Vice Dean for Student Affairs, Alumni and Entrepreneurship of FISIP UB, Dr Bambang Dwi Prasetyo, said that the transparency of sexual violence cases will definitely be carried out but must be handled first.
“This is to maintain the principle of the presumption of innocence as well. Friends at ULTKSP can also be function to make peace, so there is no need to go to court. But if you want the law, it doesn’t matter because our country is a state of law,” he said.
Bambang Dwi Prasetyo emphasized that his party had facilitated the handling of this sexual violence case. However, he also reminded that student cases can also take other forms, such as stress or other things.
“It must be remembered that the problems experienced by these students are not only about sexual violence but can also be stressful due to several factors. Now the campus has provided a Student Counseling Board. Students who are proactive, feel there is a problem, please go there,” he said. (Humas FISIP/Humas UB/ Trans. Iir)
