The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Brawijaya (FT UB), organized a Training of Trainer (ToT) workshop on the Outcomes Based Education (OBE) curriculum and preparation for accreditation by the Independent Accreditation Institute (LAM) Teknik Series 2 and Series 3 in 2024.

Held at the Ir. Prof. Suryono Auditorium, this event took place over two days, August 6-7, 2024, and was attended by 78 participants from 20 Nahdatul Ulama Universities (UNU) across Indonesia.

Sambutan Dekan FTUB, Prof Hadi SuyonoIn his speech, FT UB Dean Prof. Ir. Hadi Suyono, S.T., MT., Ph.D., IPU., ASEAN Eng., emphasized the importance of this training as an effort to expand reach and improve the quality of engineering education in Indonesia.

“This event is part of the annual FTUB Mengabdi program that has been running since 2022. We want to ensure that every higher education institution, not only in East Java but throughout Indonesia, can improve the quality of their education through the OBE curriculum and LAM accreditation preparation,” said Prof. Hadi.

It is noteworthy that the first year of FTUB Mengabdi focused on higher education institutions in East Java, and in 2023, it began expanding to the entire country.

Prof. Hadi also mentioned that this initiative goes beyond training, as participants are expected to become trainers at their respective universities, thereby continuously disseminating the knowledge acquired.

“As trainers, you can impart this knowledge to others, both within your universities and in the surrounding environment,” he added.

Ketua Forum Rektor PTNU Perkumpulan, Dr Fatkul AnamThe event was also attended by the Chairman of the PTNU Forum of Rectors and Rector of Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Sidoarjo, Dr. H. Fatkul Anam, M.Si. In his remarks, Dr. Fatkul Anam emphasized the importance of implementing this activity, especially in the preparation of OBE curriculum documents for each study program.

“We hope that after this event, each study program will have OBE curriculum documents. So, it’s not just about training and mentoring; there must be outcomes for future activities,” said Dr. Fatkul Anam.

This event involved eight speakers presenting eight topics, including curriculum planning and development, teaching and learning evaluation methods, curriculum analysis and evaluation, and preparation for accreditation.

penandatangan MoU dengan salah satu institusiAdditionally, five MOUs and eleven MOAs were signed, which are expected to enhance collaboration among higher education institutions.

Prof. Hadi added that FTUB not only focuses on the internal university but also strives to improve Indonesia’s overall academic reputation through collaboration and human resource development.

“We hope that our academic reputation will improve, leading to better outputs, and ultimately making Indonesia better,” he expressed.

This activity is a testament to FT UB’s commitment to supporting the development of engineering education in Indonesia.

A similar sentiment was expressed by UB Rector Prof. Widodo, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D. Med.Sc., before opening the event. UB, he said, has an obligation to collaborate and cooperate with other institutions to build the nation.

The event continued with the signing of MOUs, MOAs, and IA, followed by the delivery of materials on the OBE Curriculum until the second day.

On the second day, Prof. Dr. Ir. Hari Purnomo, MT., IPU., ASEAN Eng., as Chair of the LAM Teknik Accreditation Council (2021-present), explained the steps for Self-Evaluation of Study Programs in preparing the Self-Evaluation Report for National Accreditation.

“If you are a Dean, during visitations, always accompany the assessors to ensure that all necessary information is obtained correctly from the right sources. Prepare your human resources well, for instance, the minimum education level for lecturers should be a Ph.D.,” explained Prof. Hari.
