Malang, August 6th 2024

Universitas Brawijaya (UB) conducted socialization of UB Halal Metric Award for universities, industries and government agencies, to provide measurement of governance, business processes and products produced. The activity was carried out in hybrid, Tuesday (6/8/2024).

Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Prof. Imam Santoso, said that UB Halal Metric will conduct free assessments on industry, government agencies, and universities to provide appreciation to what extent they have built a halal academic atmosphere, especially in the research infrastructure ecosystem and its policies.

“Halal has become an icon not only related to spiritual spirit but also has nuances of business entities that must receive high appreciation so that they can place halal toyib as the main instrument and provide a good climate in governance and products produced,” he said.

Prof. Imam hopes that by the end of November he can release the extent of the Halal Metric measurement and appreciation for universities, industries, and government agencies that have submitted their assessments to UB Halal Metric.

He added that UB Halal Metric is the only and pioneer of assessments regarding halal practices in the world.

“UB Halal Metric is the only institution that assesses universities, government agencies and industries to provide appreciation for how all good halal ecosystem institutions provide support for education, research and innovation,” he concluded.

Head of UB Halal Metric, Ir. L. Tri Wijaya Nata Kusuma, ST., MT., Ph.D added that the measurements issued by UB will evaluate and improve halal practices sustainably.

“UB Halal Metric provides a comprehensive framework on how we evaluate and operationally improve ethical halal practices,” he said.

In evaluating and assessing halal practices, UB Halal Metric has at least 5 dimensions to assess, the first is policy, the second is education, the third is research and community service, the fourth is infrastructure and the fifth is the Halal ecosystem.

“With the start of today’s socialization, UB Halal Metric will continue. It is targeted that by the end of the year we will start tabulating all partners involved in this UB Halal Metric. And the ranking results will be announced on January 5, 2025,” he said.

Then Tri explained, for the initial assessment, the uploaded documents will be supporting evidence that the agency being run has implemented the halal concept according to the expected indicators.

“For now, we are still focusing on the evidence that you have provided. From that evidence, if there is supporting evidence, it will add assessment points and we have not had a field assessment. For now, it is only based on self-report or web-based,” he said.

By participating in the assessment at UB Halal Metric, it can be an international recognition that industry, universities, and government agencies truly implement halal principles.

“The results issued during the assessment were in the form of published rankings and of course certificates. Later, we will invite the partners with the highest ranking to Malang for the awarding ceremony,” he said.

The socialization was also filled with how to fill in indicators and supporting evidence on UB Halal Metric application.

Director of the Directorate of Information Technology, DR. Raden Arief Setyawan, S.T., M.T. provided steps for uploading documents. Starting from creating a username and password to finalization. (ROM/OKY/UB PR/ Trans. Iir)
