The PPK Ormawa EM UB Team held a series of community service programs focused on improving tourism villages entitled “Development of Wareng Village through Revitalization of Artificial Rivers as a Sustainable Superior Tourism Village with Creative Economic Empowerment Innovation.” The activity aims to restore the glory of tourism in Kampung Wareng.
This activity was carried out together with the participation of Wareng village residents. Wareng Village is located in the eastern part of Malang City, precisely in Kedungkandang District. This activity was carried out considering that Wareng tourism Village was once successful in its time. However, when COVID-19 hit, tourism activities were also affected. No exception for Wareng tourism village.
The empowerment of tourism facilities began with the construction of a bamboo bridge as a supporting facility.
Local residents are enthusiastic in contributing to the development of Wareng Village, namely the revitalization of the artificial river as a tourist village and empowerment of the creative economy and residents really hope that this activity can advance Wareng Village into an advanced tourism village.
The construction of the bamboo bridge was the first activity that students and residents did. With the spirit of mutual cooperation, the facility was successfully built within 3 weeks. It began with taking bamboo from residents’ plantations, cutting and smoothing bamboo for bridge materials, providing thatched roofs, and painting the bamboo bridge to add aesthetics and prevent damage to the bamboo.
All of this work was carried out together by students and residents of Wareng Village. Coordination between the PPK TEAM and the community was smooth.
Before this program began, the PPK Ormawa TEAM conducted socialization with residents for the smooth running of this program.
Moreover, a community socialization program was also carried out to support the sustainability of the PPK Ormawa program. Through the Brawijaya Urban Social Project program implemented by the Ministry of Social Affairs EM UB, this socialization program was held to support the sustainability of the existing program.
Some of the socialization programs held are K3 Empowerment, Tourism Operational Training, Qris Usage Socialization, and Social Media Branding Training.
“We hope that through this program, it can support sustainability and continuity of the SDGs sustainability points,” said Aura from the PPK ORMAWA EM UB team. (*/UB PR/ Trans. Iir)
