PKMS Team Assists the Community of Pronojiwo Village to Recover Economy

The Collaboration of PMS UB Team to Improve Productivity of Salak Community

The Strategic Community Service Team (PKMS) chaired by Dr. Wuryan Andayani, SE., Ak., M.Sc., CSRS, CSRA from the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB UB) assists the people of Supiturang Village, Pronojiwo District, Lumajang Regency to restore the economy by utilizing abundant agricultural potential, namely fresh Salak fruit. The activity will be held from July to October 2022.

In the PKMS activity there are two activities carried out by the team. The first is to help increase sales of fresh salak fruit in order to expand its market.

“This first activity is aimed at enabling consumers to directly communicate with farmers so that they can cut the marketing chain,” said Wuryan.

The second idea is to process salak fruit into salak fruit chips which have a longer shelf life and can be sold at a relatively higher price.

In terms of the production process, the strategic community service team provides grant support for a vacuum frying machine to salak farmers.

“Hopefully it can be a stimulus for the community to dare to try to produce a new product in the form of salak chips as a regional flagships product,” he said.

The PKMS team consists of Wike Agustin Prima Dania, STP, M.Eng, PhD. (as an expert in the processing of the food industry), Ir. Dr. eng. Tri Budi Prayogo, ST. MT, and Ir. Endra Yuafanedi Arifianto, ST. MT. from the Faculty of Engineering UB.

This service program also collaborates with one of zakat institutions in Malang as a third party who will continue to oversee the activities of the salak farmer group community. The institution plays a role in assisting when the program runs and after the program from UB PMS team has ended. [END/ Humas UB/ Trans. Iir]
