FPIK Community Service Team Trains  Gandusari Koi Cultivation Group

Blitar is one of the cities in East Java Province, which is famous for its world-class koi fish population. Blitar Koi is famous for its superior quality, beautiful color patterns, and fantastic prices. The beauty of Blitar Koi cannot be separated from the long history of its cultivation in this region. For centuries, the people of Blitar have been raising and developing koi fish with full dedication. Their skills and knowledge are passed down from generation to generation, producing unique and special koi.

One of the koi fish cultivation groups in Blitar is the Tirta Mulya Koi Fish Cultivation Group (POKDAKAN) in Gandusari District, Blitar Regency. POKDAKAN has been cultivating koi fish since 2010 in earthen ponds and the results of this koi fish cultivation are sold both in local and international markets. With the success and consistency of POKDAKAN Tirta Mulya in cultivating koi fish, the Blitar Regency Livestock and Fisheries Service has provided assistance in the form of koi broodstock to this POKDAKAN.

However, since 2023 the price of koi fish has continued to decline, this has caused difficulties for cultivators. In cultivation management, the quality of pond water is very important in koi fish cultivation because it directly affects the health and beauty of the koi fish. The community service program chaired by Aulia Rahmawati, S.P., M.Sc. from the Aquaculture study program, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Universitas Brawijaya, together with a team of lecturers, this group conducted socialization and provided assistance with tools that can maintain the quality of the koi pond water at Pokdakan Tirta Mulya.

This activity was carried out on August 26, 2024 at the Pokdakan Tirta Mulya pond. This activity was attended by Mr. Samsuri as the Chairperson of Pokdakan Tirta Mulya, along with his members. The cultivators gave a very good response to this activity, since it added knowledge related to maintaining water quality by using good aeration in koi ponds. Because the oxygen content in the pond will greatly determine the quality of the water in breaking down organic matter from koi fish feces and uneaten food waste. If the water quality can be maintained, the health of the koi fish will also be well maintained. (VQ/ UB PR/ Trans. Iir)
