The Chemistry Student Team, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Brawijaya (UB) won the 3rd place in the PYC Paper Competition: Official Side Event for ASEAN Indonesia 2023. The event was organized by Purnomo Yusgiantoro Center on (15/9-16/9/2023) at JS Luwansa Hotel, South Jakarta.
In this competition, the Chemistry student team consisted of Rifqi Fajar Maulana and Uray Keisya Ranaputri who were supervised by Drs. Sutrisno, M.Sc. and Yuniar Ponco Prananto, S.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D.
The paper presented was entitled “Potential Development of Unconventional Oil and Gas Resources in Indonesia: Comprehensive Review”.
The paper discusses the potential for non-conventional oil and gas resources which have not been widely explored in Indonesia, even though they are very abundant. It can be seen that currently coal only has a lifespan of 61 years, natural gas has 24 years, and petroleum has 19 years. With this paper, they hope that in the future Indonesia can continue to develop and utilize non-conventional oil and gas for an energy independent Indonesia.
“The paper that we wrote succeeded in eliminating 129 teams in the abstract selection, 88 teams in the full paper selection, until they qualified as top ten finalists. During the final round, we were required to present and ask questions in English in front of judges who were experts in the energy sector, namely a Biochemistry Professor from ITB, a senior researcher from BRIN, and a researcher from ASEAN Center for Energy. The judges were impressed with our presentation. “This is because we are the youngest presenters at the 2023 PYC Paper Competition who present ideas about the future of energy sources in Indonesia which are extraordinarily abundant,” he said.
PYC International Energy Conference 2023 is a series of official events from ASEAN Indonesia 2023 which was attended by the Minister of Research, Technology and Culture, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Minister of Industry of Indonesia, and energy academics from Indonesia and abroad. Not only winning, their article will also be published in the Indonesian Journal of Energy, Volume 7, Number 1 in February 2024. (*/OKY/UB PR/ Trans. Iir).
