At the end of October 2020, the Times Higher Education (THE) world ranking released another ranking of the world’s best tertiary Higher Education (PT) by subject, THE World University Ranking 2021 by Subject.
If a ranking table is displayed based on engineering and technology subjects, UB ranks 1000+ in the world.
This category highlights the universities that are leading across the following disciplines: general engineering, electrical and electronic engineering, mechanical and aerospace engineering, civil engineering and chemical engineering.
This means that UB’s ranking is also the ranking of the Faculty of Engineering (FT) in the world as a provider of engineering science in UB.
“This is an international recognition for FT UB, considering that only seven universities in Indonesia are included in the list in the Engineering Subject,” said the Dean of FTUB, Prof. Dr. Ir. Pitojo Tri Juwono, M.T., IPU.
The engineering subject table uses the same trusted and rigorous performance indicators as the THE World University Rankings 2021.
Those indicators include teaching, research, citations, international outlook, and industry income, but the methodology has been re-calibrated to suit the individual fields.
This achievement shows that the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Brawijaya is well-equipped to be equal to major universities around the world.
Increasing many cited publications, increasing international cooperation and branding, as well as industrial cooperation can make fields in UB more recognized internationally.
Prof. Pitojo expressed his pride in this achievement and hoped that this achievement would continue to be improved in the future.
“Alhamdulillah, of course I am very happy, because our efforts to get international recognition can be realized, and hopefully what we have been planning so far is on the track,” said this Water Resources Expert.
In the future, he continued, it is hoped that this achievement can be continued with more international accreditation and an increasingly better international reputation.
“We will also intensify international cooperation and increase distinctive publications that are widely cited. Because it can’t be denied that the ranking organization such THE or QS uses international outlook and performance as one of its indicators,” he said. (mic)
