Three UB students created an agriculture startup for Chicken Breeders named “Chickin” which has been downloaded by thousands of chicken farmers in Indonesia. Through IoT & AI, Chickin can increase farmer productivity up to 25 percent higher.
According to one of the farmers, Yudi, Chickin Apps are very helpful in the management/maintenance management.
“If it is carried out with strict SOP, the rearing system will be efficient for feed, mortality can be reduced by means of prevention and precise treatment,” said Yudi, who is also a member of the farmer community.
Chickin Indonesia (Chickin) was built by Ashab Alkahfi (Agroekotechnology FP) as the President, Tubagus Syailendra (International Relations FISIP) as the CEO, and Ahmad Syaifullah (Information System FILKOM) as the Chief Technology Officer.
The startup project has been started since they were in college in the second semester.
“Initially, we did research and development in Klaten area, Central Java. There, we became breeders then built cages and started a chicken farming business until finally we met many problems faced by local farmers. From there we try to solve the problem by using technology,” said Ashab.
Ashab added that through Chickin, farmers do not need to manually control the climate of the chicken coop.
“Chicken farmers can do climate control from home. With this technology, farmers can enter data such as livestock production facilities or sapronak, daily data, and sales data, so that performance is more measurable and can minimize risk through preventive actions,” he said.
Some of the features available in Chickin Apps, namely managing cages, managing cage data, and IoT configurations that can be adjusted to weather conditions, temperature and humidity and even the age of the chickens.
Currently, in addition to 14 slaughterhouses, Chickin also partners with 100 food industries as a supplier of chicken meat.
Ashab hopes that later Chickin will be able to provide more impact for farmers.
Chickin recorded 22x business growth in the last 10 months and has also closed a seed round funding of IDR 35 billion with 3 global investors. They are targeting an increase in turnover of IDR 500 billion by the end of 2022 with 10 million chickens being empowered every month.

Two Chickin Indonesia Founders, Ashab Alkahfi and Tubagus Syailendra, become the part of Forbes Indonesia 30 Under 30, which was just released some time ago.
Chickin Indonesia is a start-up assisted by BIIW UB, which has succeeded in obtaining foreign funding of US$ 2.5 million, at the end of 2021.
Chickin Indonesia is committed to utilizing technology to minimize the use of antibiotics in organic chickens, by controlling the temperature of the cage, and providing training to chicken farmers, free of charge, with the aim of modernizing Indonesian chicken farmers.
Until now, the Chickin Indonesia application has been used by a thousand farmers throughout Indonesia, with a target of 10 million chickens raised every month, by the end of 2022. (Oky/Humas UB/ Trans. Iir).
