Student of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Universitas Brawijaya (FKH UB) Chandra Luki Annadhifa conducts Socialization on Hygiene Sanitation and Cattle Cage Sanitation to 20 breeders in Pucak Wangi Village, Babat District, Lamongan Regency.
The socialization program on breeders hygiene and cage sanitation was chosen because in general, breeders in Pucak Wangi Village do not pay attention to cage sanitation.
Chandra explained that the socialization material was chosen based on the observations of residents’ livestock cages that were not clean enough so that it could cause disease. This is due to the bacteria contained in the cage and the lack of understanding of the breeders of Pucak Wangi Village about the importance of breeder hygiene and sanitation of the cage.
“Environmental hygiene factors are very important, both for livestock and breeders to ensure the health of livestock and the surrounding environment,” said Chandra
Hygiene and sanitation cannot be separated from one another since they are closely related.
“Hygiene and cage sanitation are very important because they are closely related to the health of livestock and humans. Breeder hygiene includes the use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), and breeder hygiene,” said Chandra.
Meanwhile, the sanitation of the livestock cage includes the building of the cage, the direction of the cage, the location of the cage, the management of livestock waste, and the cleanliness of the cage.
“Some residents already know the importance of breeder hygiene and livestock cage sanitation to prevent disease transmission of livestock and breeders, but there are still many farmers in Pucak Wangi Village who still ignore breeder hygiene and cage sanitation for certain reasons,” he said.
