Ngantang, August 8, 2024 – The 2024 Community Service Program (KKN-DM) team from Universitas Brawijaya (UB) held a socialization event on the establishment of a Dairy Cow Manure Bank at the Sumber Makmur Village Cooperative (KUD) in Ngantang on Thursday, August 8, 2024. The event was attended by 39 leaders of livestock groups from various villages in Ngantang District.
The objective of this initiative is to introduce the concept of a Dairy Cow Manure Bank as an innovative solution for managing livestock waste. The Manure Bank is expected to convert cow manure into economically valuable compost fertilizer, while also reducing the negative environmental impact of waste.
Dr. Ir. Marjuki, M.Sc, the leader of the KKN-DM UB 2024 team, emphasized the importance of collaboration between farmers and the support team in addressing the issue of livestock waste. “Our task is to encourage and motivate the community to collectively solve the problem of dairy cow manure. Let’s work together to address this issue in ways that suit the conditions of each farmer,” said the lecturer from UB’s Faculty of Animal Science.
The program received positive feedback from the farmers. Sugiono, Chairman of KUD Sumber Makmur Ngantang, expressed his appreciation for the initiative provided by the KKN-DM UB team. “I fully support this program as it can reduce livestock waste, especially in the Ngantang area. I would like to thank Dr. Ir. Marjuki, M.Sc, and the Doktor Mengabdi UB team for sharing their knowledge with 39 livestock group leaders from 13 villages in Ngantang District,” he said.
Through this initiative, farmers are expected to better manage waste and turn it into high-quality compost fertilizer. Additionally, the event provided an opportunity for participants to discuss and exchange experiences related to waste management, and to gain practical knowledge about the process of converting cow manure into compost fertilizer.
The KKN-DM 2024 team is committed to continuously supporting farmers in implementing the Dairy Cow Manure Bank concept, with the hope of creating a cleaner, more productive, and sustainable livestock environment in the future. mt
