The Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Universitas Brawijaya (FPIK UB) and the Bengkel Mimpi Foundation have established a partnership to develop innovations in food security and community welfare as a strategic step in developing sustainable agriculture and fisheries. The signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) between the Chairperson of the Bengkel Mimpi Foundation, Basiri, and the Dean of FPIK UB, Prof. Dr. Ir. Maftuch, M.Si took place in the VVIP room on the 2nd floor of FPIK UB building, Thursday (03/20/2025).
This MoA is the basis for various work programs that will be implemented together to support innovation and empowerment in the field of integrated fisheries and agriculture. Also present at this activity were the Vice Dean for General Affairs, Finance, and Resources, Dr. Ir. Muhamad Firdaus, MP., and Vice Dean for Student Affairs, Alumni, and Student Entrepreneurship, Prof. Dr. Eng. Abu Bakar Sambah, S.Pi., MT.
As a follow-up to this collaboration, the Bengkel Mimpi Foundation will utilize the ponds in the Sumber Pasir Laboratory of FPIK UB for freshwater fish farming. The payment system implemented allows transactions to be made during harvest, so that the foundation can manage the cultivation business more flexibly without the burden of large initial costs.
“This program is expected to increase the productivity of freshwater fisheries and strengthen the synergy between academics and practitioners in developing a sustainable fisheries sector,” said the Dean.
FPIK UB is also committed to increase the capacity of human resources at the Bengkel Mimpi Foundation through community service-based training programs. This training covers various technical and managerial aspects in integrated fisheries and agriculture, in order to equip farmers and cultivators with better skills. Scientific and technological support from FPIK UB is expected to optimize production and help business actors face the challenges of modern industry.
With this partnership, it is expected that it will not only benefit both institutions, but also be an inspiration for various parties in developing sustainable agricultural and fisheries systems.
Bengkel Mimpi Foundation, located in Krajan Hamlet, Kanigoro Village, Pagelaran, continues to innovate in the agricultural sector through the development of a hydroganic system, a combination of hydroponics and organic cultivation. This method allows plants to grow without soil by using plastic cups and PVC pipes as planting media, becoming a solution for people with limited land. [Citra/Irene/ UB PR/ Trans. Iir]
