The Division of Occupational Safety, Health, and Environment of Universitas Brawijaya (K3L UB) held a Disaster Workshop and Simulation, Friday (06/12/2024), in the Corridor of the 1st Floor of the Rectorate.
The University Secretary, Dr. Tri Wahyu Nugroho, S.P., M.Si when opening the event said that earthquakes are disasters that are difficult to predict. With the potential for natural disasters in this country, it is necessary to build awareness and knowledge about what needs to be done in dealing with natural disasters, especially earthquakes.
“Therefore, disaster training needs to be carried out frequently so that it becomes a habit or culture, so that we are aware of disasters that occur. If a disaster occurs, we already know what to do,” explained Tri Wahyu Nugroho.
He added that there needs to be a disaster mitigation standard in each faculty or work unit. At least there is an evacuation route, and the determination of a gathering point in the event of a disaster.
This activity presented a speaker from the Malang City Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), namely Endi Suhandi, S.Pd., M.Pd (Young Functional of Disaster Management).
Endi said that people who are able to save themselves have a higher potential to live than those saved by the SAR Team. So, it is mandatory to always be vigilant.
“The key is not to panic, protect your head, find shelter such as under a table near the exit, a corner of the room, or a pillar, keep protecting your head until the earthquake subsides, then exit when the earthquake has subsided towards the designated gathering point,” explained Endi.
Disaster simulations were carried out with a gathering point at the rectorate field, followed by fire handling training. This activity was also accompanied by all ranks of BPBD, namely Dra. Khabibah, MM (Head of Prevention and Preparedness), Dwi Prihandoko, S.Hut (Analyst for Prevention and Preparedness), Zainul Arifin S.Pd (Staff for Prevention and Preparedness), and Achmad Affan Ghofar, A.Md.Li, S.Ikom (Staff for Prevention and Preparedness).
On this occasion, the General K3 Expert Certificate was also symbolically given to UB General K3 experts. The activity was attended by the ranks of Directorate Directors, Heads of Divisions, Heads of UPT, Vice Deans for General Affairs, Finance, and Resources of all faculties, Head of Administration, and UB General K3 Experts.
