The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) Universitas Brawijaya (UB) received an educational visit from SMA Taman Harapan 1 Bekasi on Tuesday (4/15/2025).
The activity, which took place at the Nuswantara Auditorium, 7th floor of Building B FISIP UB, was attended by around 150 students of grade 12 and accompanying teachers.
This visit is part of the school’s efforts to introduce the university environment directly to students, as well as provide motivation and a real picture of the campus world, especially at FISIP UB
The Principal of SMA Taman Harapan 1 Bekasi, Cahyono, S.Pd., M.Pd., expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome from FISIP UB.
“It is an honor for us to be accepted at FISIP UB. We hope that this visit can be additional provisions for our children in facing UTBK and determining their future study choices,” he said.
He also mentioned that several students from his school have been accepted at UB through the SNBP pathway, and hopes that more can follow through the SNBT pathway or other pathways.
The next session was filled with a presentation of material by Muhammad Irfan Anshori, S.I.Kom., from the Public Relations of FISIP UB. He gave a general introduction to FISIP UB, including study programs, entry pathways, and campus social circles.
“The enthusiasm of the 12th grade students who will be taking UTBK next week is extraordinary, but are still enthusiastic about coming to FISIP,” said Irfan opening his session.
Furthermore, Irfan explained that the acceptance of new students also considers the track record of the school of origin.
“If there are alumni, this can be an added value. So if there are those who have been accepted through SNBP, it can make it easier for their juniors in the following year,” he added.
In addition, Irfan also emphasized that UB campus environment, especially FISIP, is very open and multicultural.
More than 30 percent of its students come from the Jabodetabek area, including Bekasi, so students do not need to worry about having difficulty adapting.
In the question and answer session, one of the teachers asked about contemporary professions such as YouTubers, which are now the aspirations of many students and their relationship to the Communication Studies Program.
“I once told my students that there is no school for being a YouTuber. But after hearing the explanation earlier, I felt that the knowledge learned in Communication is also very relevant in that direction,” said the teacher.
Responding to this, Irfan explained that the Communication Science Study Program at FISIP UB does not specifically produce YouTubers, but provides a strong foundation behind the creative process of digital content.
“We learn many things that support the world of content—from media trend analysis, video production, editing, social media management, to public speaking. So, even though not all of them appear in front of the camera, our graduates have an important role behind the scenes,” he explained.
He also mentioned that many Communication Science alumni are now working in the media, creative agencies, and even becoming content creators and influencers.
“We educate and prepare our students to become a conceptor,” concluded Irfan. (Atho-FISIP PR/ UB PR/ Trans. Iir)
