In accordance with the circular letter of UB Rector, in this even semester, the teaching and learning process will apply a hybrid system. The lecture system by combining offline and online will be implemented with strict rules starting from February 2022. UB Rector, Prof. Dr. Ir. Nuhfil Hanani, A.R., M.S. said that his party had designed a lecture system with a hybrid model at the end of last year. With this system, students are allowed to take classes offline and alternately. However, not all students can take part in offline lectures. They must at least not come from areas with high Covid-19 cases. This includes areas with cases of Omicron variant of Covid-19. Furthermore, students must have received the Covid-19 vaccination.
Responding to the new rules from UB Rector, the Faculty of Computer Science, Universitas Brawijaya (FILKOM UB) is ready to change its classroom into a hybrid class that is equipped with technology that supports learning systems both offline and online. FILKOM UB is one of the faculties that is considered ready to implement a hybrid system.
Vice Dean I for Academic Affairs of UB Filkom, Dr. eng. Herman Tolle, ST. MT. said that the simulation was carried out to determine the readiness of the infrastructure in implementing this hybrid course. In a number of classrooms, a number of tools to support hybrid lectures are ready. Meanwhile, FILKOM UB still has 8 classes that support hybrid lectures, later there will be 18 more classes that are ready for hybrid lectures. During hybrid lectures, 50 percent of students will be in the class attending offline lectures. While the other 50 percent join online lectures. Herman said that the campus will arrange the schedule, so that not all classes enter at the same time.
“We simulate it because the Rector thinks that FILKOM is good and can be imitated by other faculties. After this, we will also have teacher training. We also ask for feedback from students who join the zoom from home,” said Herman.
The student representative who took part in hybrid study simulation, Farah (Information Systems Study Program) admitted that they were enthusiastic about the start of face-to-face lectures even though they were not 100 percent yet. Because since he entered college in 2020, he hasn’t even attended a face-to-face lecture. When asked whether he prefers to study online or offline, Farah admits that she is still unsure. Because according to her, there are courses that really need face-to-face learning, but there are also courses that can be taught online. [drn/Humas UB/ Trans. Iir]
