On Wednesday (8/5/2024), at the Incubator Building of the Directorate of Innovation and Science & Technology Area (DIKST) of Universitas Brawijaya, a tenant selection activity was held for prospective participants in the 2024 Startup Capacity Improvement Program. This activity is the result of collaboration between the Deputy for Entrepreneurship of the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs and DIKST Universitas Brawijaya.
Within the framework of the National Entrepreneurship Development Program, the strategy for growing startups through incubation is one of the main focuses of the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs. By holding a Startup Facilitation and Development program with the aim of supporting the improvement of incubation services for startups, it is hoped that innovative, sustainable startups will be created that are able to absorb workers from among young entrepreneurs.
2024 will be the momentum for the implementation of this facilitation program by holding Startup Capacity Improvement activities in nine locations, including Malang, with a target of at least 180 startups. The collaboration between the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs and DIKST Universitas Brawijaya aims to increase the effectiveness of these activities, especially in providing incubation services to startups in Malang area and its surroundings.
The tenant selection event began with a salute to the national anthem Indonesia Raya, followed by a report from the Assistant Deputy for Information Technology Development and Business Incubation, Christina Agustin, A.Pi., M.M. also remarks from the Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation (VC5), as well as remarks and official opening of the event by the Deputy for Entrepreneurship, Ir. Siti Azizah, MBA. The event closed with a prayer.
In her remarks, Christina Agustin, MM, highlighted the important role of startups in advancing the global economy. She emphasized that startups are not only a local phenomenon in Indonesia, but have also entered almost all countries in the world. “Startups have great potential to become the driving force of the economy in various countries, including Indonesia,” said Christina Agustin. “Young people have extraordinary creativity and innovative spirit. Through startups, they can transform their ideas into solutions that can have a positive impact on society and the economy,” she added.
At the end of his speech, Agustin invited stakeholders to continue to support the development of startups as an integral part of a sustainable and inclusive economic development strategy. It is hoped that this tenant selection activity can be a positive first step in advancing the startup ecosystem in Indonesia, especially in Malang area and its surroundings.
The next main event was the Pitching Session by the jury from DIKST. The jury was divided into 2 Jury Teams. The first team consists of Mohammad Iqbal, S.Sos, M.IB, DBA. (Director of DIKST UB); Dr. Ir. Dian Eka Rahmawati, S.Si, M.Kom (Head of the Center for Intellectual Property Empowerment of DIKST UB); and Dias Satria, S.E., M.App.Ec., Ph.D (Head of the Center for Innovation and Technology Transfer of DIKST UB). The second team consisted of Sri Palupi Prabandari, SE., MM., Ph.D. (Secretary of DIKST UB); Inggang Perwangsa Nuralam, SE., MBA., Ph.D (Chair of PPESIB DIKST UB); and Brillyanes Sanawiri, SAB., MBA (Chair of PIU DIKST UB).
