Reyog UB Competes in the 2023 Reyog Ponorogo National Festival

Reyog Universitas Brawijaya once again participated in the 2023 Reyog Ponorogo National Festival. This time the Reyog festival was held on the Main Stage of Ponorogo City Park (Sunday, 16/7/2023).

UB team that competed in Reyog festival consisted of 113 students consisting of 42 women and 71 men. Reyog UB will compete with 28 reog participants from various regions, universities and high schools in Indonesia.

According to Prof. Dr. Eng. Ir. Denny Widhiyanuriyawan, S.T., M.T. UB reog coach, preparation and intense training have been carried out regularly in the past 2 months. It is hoped that Reyog UB will win the overall championship again.

It should be noted that Reyog National Festival has been held every year since 1995. And this year is the 28th Reyog National Festival. On this occasion, the Rector of Universitas Brawijaya (UB) Prof. Widodo, S.Sc., M.Sc., Ph.D.Med.Sc., along with the staff attended directly to witness and support UB reog team.

Accompanied by the Regent of Ponorogo H. Sugiri Sancoko, S.E., M.M., the Rector seemed to follow enthusiastically the performance of Reyog UB. So far, Reyog UB has won 6 times. Following are the details of the winners won by Reyog UB in the Reyog Ponorogo National Festival: 2013 7th place, 2015 2nd place, 2016 2nd place, 2017 1st place, 2018 1st place and 2019 1st place.

2019 is a special year for Reyog UB because it has been crowned as the national champion 3 times in a row and has the right to win the President’s Cup.

On the previous occasion, when releasing Reyog contingent, the Rector himself said that art activities are currently an important part in building character. Character competence, and the ability to have a more open mind and of course in the context of internationalization, art activities such as Reog festival and other art performances are very important.
