
The Rector of Universitas Brawijaya (UB), Prof. Widodo, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D.Med.Sc., received an official visit from Dr. Bai Yun, Executive Director of the Southeast Asia and Common Market Research Center at Fudan International School of Finance, on Monday (April 28, 2025). This visit is part of an effort to strengthen academic and industrial relations between UB and Fudan University. In the meeting held at UB Rectorate Building, Prof. Widodo was accompanied by Prof. Asfi Manzilati (an Islamic Economics expert from UB Faculty of Economics and Business), Prof. Joni Kusnadi, and Prof. Sucipto, two of whom are experts in the field of halal ecosystem development. The discussion focused on the potential for developing the halal sector, especially to support the Chinese industry which plans to expand its business in Indonesia through the application of halal economic principles. “UB is committed to becoming a center for the development of halal sector studies and innovations, not only for national needs, but also in supporting global investment based on sharia principles,” said Prof. Widodo. Responding to this, Dr. Bai Yun said, “We see Indonesia, especially Universitas Brawijaya, as a strategic partner in the development of research and implementation of the halal economy in the region. This collaboration is expected to create new opportunities for Chinese industry to innovate in a more inclusive and sustainable manner.”

In addition to meeting with UB leaders, Dr. Bai Yun also visited several strategic units on campus. At UB Integrated Research Laboratory (LRT), she was received by Dr. Midia and the research team. The discussion focused on the potential for innovative research collaboration, especially technology that is relevant to the halal and sustainable industry. “We see great opportunities in developing applied research that can accelerate the adaptation of halal technology in the Southeast Asian market,” said Dr. Midia. Furthermore, Dr. Bai Yun visited the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) UB and was welcomed directly by the Dean of FISIP, Prof. Anang Sujoko. On this occasion, both parties discussed the plan to establish Fudan-UB Joint Research Center in the fields of socio-politics and international relations. “The establishment of this Joint Research Center is an important step in building multidisciplinary research collaboration and expanding UB’s global network,” said Prof. Anang Sujoko.

As part of the series of visits, Dr. Bai Yun also visited PT Brawijaya Multi Usaha (BMU) and was received by the Director of PT BMU, Dr. Edi Purwanto. The discussion discussed opportunities for collaboration in the development of premium coffee products and medical device technology. “The synergy between UB and Fudan, through business sectors such as coffee and medical devices, is a concrete example of academic-industry collaboration that is oriented towards the global market,” said Dr. Edi Purwanto. Dr. Bai Yun’s visit is expected to be the first step in strengthening collaboration between Universitas Brawijaya and Fudan University, both in the fields of academics, research, and development of the halal industry sector at the national and regional levels.
