Rector Exhibits MBKM Program at the QS Higher Education Summit: Middle East 2024

As an important step to highlight the progress of higher education in Indonesia, the Rector of Brawijaya University, Prof. Widodo, S.Si., M.Si., PhD MedSc explained the Independent Campus Independent Learning (MBKM) flagship program at the prestigious QS Higher Education Summit: Middle East 2024 which was held from Tuesday to Thursday (27-29/2/2024) at the American University of Ras Al Khaimah, UAE.

The Independent Campus Independent Learning Program is an innovative initiative from the Indonesian Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology. This program is designed to provide students with the opportunity to learn outside the conventional classroom. “This encourages students to get involved in internships, research, community projects and study abroad, thereby broadening their academic and professional horizons,” explained Widodo.

During the meeting, the Rector outlined the program’s achievements and its impact on improving student experience and employability. The presentation also highlighted how UB has succeeded in integrating MBKM framework into the curriculum, thereby creating a more flexible and comprehensive educational environment.

“MBKM at UB offers students direct experience in various situations such as industry, community, international environments and laboratories. This initiative encourages the growth of empathy, encouraging stimulation creativity, and instilling a sense of responsibility, enabling students to become integral part of the solution to various challenges,” he explained.

QS Higher Education Summit: Middle East 2024 serves as a platform for academic leaders around the world to share insights, innovation and strategy in higher education. The Rector’s participation confirms Brawijaya University’s commitment to global education standards and its role as a leading institution in Southeast Asia.

The event attracts educators, policymakers and industry experts, facilitating the exchange of ideas and best practices in the higher education sector.
