Rector Prof. Dr. Ir. Mohammad Bisri, MS ceremonially send off the new students of Faculty of Engineering Universitas Brawijaya (FTUB) for the 40th Student Work Camp (KKM XL) on Saturday, January 27, 2018. Also gathered at UB Rectorate Square, all principals of FTUB from eight departments, Head of Administration Affairs along with his staff, UB Student Executive President (EM), BEM FT Coordinator, and Head of FT Student Association.
Community service activities that have been FT’s tradition for 40 years is the first big event for the new appointed Vice Dean for Student Affairs that was inaugurated last December 28, 2017. In his report as Chief Executive, Dr. Eng Denny Widhiyanuriyawan, ST., MT said that total number of participants is 702 which will be accompanied by a committee consists of senior students, lecturers, and administrative staff.
Dr.Eng Denny also revealed that the purpose of KKM is first, to implement High Education Tri Dharma especially Community Service. Second is to strengthen cooperation among new students across departments with lecturers and employees. In the activities that will last for 4 days, the participants will have Project activities (for male students) and Devotion (for female students). Project activities are including making concrete road, drainage clearance, garbage bin installation, and street lighting. While devotion by female students are including counselling, handicraft making, and teaching in nearby schools. This annual event will take place in Beringin Village, Wajak District, Malang Regency on 27-31 January 2018.
Dr. Ir. Pitojo Tri Juwono, MT as Dean of FTUB in his speech advised 3 things. First, he hopes that under the command and coordination of WD3 this activity can run well, orderly, conducive, and humanist without violence. Second, the committee should ensure these activities are beneficial to the community and all those involved and implemented optimally in those limited time. Finally, he hopes that freshmen can use this moment as a means in socialization and integration with the community, shaping the character as FT students who can use their knowledge to recognize and solve existing problems in the community.
“Embrace the soul of devotion, tolerance, striving, and discipline. Make this activity memorable for all of us!” said the Dean.
Meanwhile, in his speech, the Rector represented the university principal expressed his appreciation to all faculty leaders, the committee, and the senior students who guarantee this activity will be harmonious and beneficial.
“I hope later this activity will not only be harmonized between departments at the faculty but also between faculties, so it can prove that UB is not an ivory tower, but contributes also to its surroundings,” said the Professor at Water Resources Engineering Department.
After the released ceremony by the university, faculties, and department leaders, KKM participants were dispatched into two batches towards its destination. KKM activity itself will take place from 04:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. every day, so that participants are expected to maintain physical and health conditions. [mic/Humas UB]
