Signing of MoA between FPIK UB and KKP to Strengthen Sustainable Fisheries and Marine Management Towards Golden Indonesia 2045

The series of peaks of the 62nd Anniversary of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Universitas Brawijaya (FPIK UB) took place lively with the holding of Alumni Gathering and signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) between FPIK and the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP). The event held on Sunday (17/11/2024), at the Ijen Suites Resort & Convention, Malang, was attended by lecturers, alumni of FPIK UB, partners, and representatives of KKP.

In his remarks, the Dean of FPIK, Prof. Dr. Ir. Maftuch, M.Sc., conveyed his commitment to support KKP in realizing five priority programs based on the blue economy. FPIK UB, which currently manages eight undergraduate study programs at the main campus of UB Malang and PSDKU UB Kediri, as well as postgraduate programs (Masters and Doctoral). In addition, FPIK UB has a focus on superior research on six main commodities, namely shrimp, tuna, tilapia, koi, mangroves, and marine tourism. With the development of research facilities and funding that continues to be improved, FPIK is optimistic that it can make a significant contribution to the management of the Indonesian fisheries and marine sector.

UB Vice Rector for Research and Innovation, Prof. Dr. Unti Ludigdo, S.E., M.Si., Ak., added that FPIK UB has produced various superior research innovations, including salt tunnel technology. This innovation is expected to support the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries in implementing coastal cultivation programs in a measurable manner.

Welcoming this, the Head of Human Resources Extension of Marine and Fisheries and Development Agency of the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Dr. I Nyoman Radiarta, S.Pi, M.Sc., gave his appreciation for the efforts and contributions of FPIK UB in supporting the development of the fisheries sector.

“Currently, KKP has five priority programs consisting of expanding conservation areas, measured capture fisheries, developing coastal and marine cultivation, monitoring small islands, and handling marine waste. FPIK UB’s focus as a shrimp research center will greatly assist the main priority program, namely coastal cultivation,” he said.

This activity is a strategic momentum to strengthen collaboration between FPIK UB and KKP, especially through the involvement of students, lecturers, and research facilities in supporting the achievement of national targets towards the Golden Indonesia 2045. [FPIK PR/ UB PR/ Trans. Iir]
