Universitas Brawijaya (UB) which has been designated as a State University with Legal Entity (PTNBH), now has three organs, namely the Board of Trustees (MWA), the Rector and the University Academic Senate (SAU).
The Executive Secretary of MWA, Andi Kurniawan, S.Pi., M.Eng. D.Sc. said that the change in structure is based on Government Regulation Number 108 of 2021. In this regulation, UB must adjust various things in line with its new status.
“By this change, UB can be more autonomous to regulate norms and performance measurement,” said Andi.
Meanwhile, the functions of each of these structures are, first, the University Academic Senate or SAU has the function of compiling, formulating, setting policies, providing considerations, and conducting supervision in the academic field.

The Chairperson of UB Senate, Prof. Dr. Ir. Arifin, MS. and Prof. Iwan Triyuwono, SE. Ak., M.Ec, Ph.D as the secretary of the Senate.
The second structure is MWA which has the duties and authorities that are to determine UB general non-academic policies, determine the master development plan, strategic plan, and annual budget plan proposed by the Rector. MWA also supervises the general management and control of UB’s non-academic management and appoints and dismisses the Rector.
The Chair, Deputy, Secretary and Executive Secretary of MWA have been appointed on December 22, 2021, respectively, Prof. Dr. Muhadjir Effendy, M.A.P. (chairman), Prof. Ir. Simon B. Widjanarko, M.App.Sc., Ph.D. (deputy chairman), Prof. Dr. Ir. Djalal Rosyidi, M.S., IPU., ASEAN Eng., (secretary) and Andi Kurniawan, S.Pi., M.Eng. D.Sc. (executive secretary).
The members of MWA consist of the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, UB Rector, Head of SAU UB, representatives from Community Leaders, Alumni representatives, Lecturer representatives, and Student representatives.

Meanwhile, the Rector as an organ of UB is an academic implementing element that carries out the management function of UB.
With this change, it is hoped that UB can achieve its vision of becoming a world-class university.
“Currently, UB has been recognized in international rankings. Even from 12 rankings of Times Higher Education by Subject, UB is included in 7 world ranking subjects, and we are targeted to become a university with 500+ world rankings in 2025. Therefore, PTN-BH is expected to increase UB competitiveness both nationally and internationally, ” said the Rector, Prof. Dr. Ir. Nuhfil Hanani, AR., M.S. (Humas UB/ Trans. Iir).
